Position Purpose:

The Chief of Staff (COS) for Institutional Diversity & Equity (IDE) serves as a key strategic advisor to the Senior Vice President & Senior Diversity Officer, working in partnership with the senior leadership in IDE to refine and implement a divisional strategy and roadmap for IDE across campus. Reporting to the SVP, the COS will help prioritize and drive the activities of the IDE while planning and formulating future goals. Provides day-to-day support to the SVP on a wide variety of administrative matters, including written correspondence. Upon request and as appropriate, the COS will manage the SVP’s relationship to Dartmouth departments, professional schools, and others as well as staff assigned meetings.

Bachelors or equivalent combination of education and experience

Administration

  • Researches and manages the planning and development of special programs and initiatives led by the SVP and the department (including but not limited to institutional and departmental strategic plans, fellows programs, cultural partnerships, research and community partnerships).
  • Serves as the direct supervisor for the executive assistant to the SVP and the events manager ensuring synergy across these critical support functions.
  • Drives and monitors progress toward goals, including key commitments and actions required by the SVP.
  • Participates, strategizes, and supports the SVP in ongoing meetings with colleagues internal and external to Dartmouth.
  • Supports SVP in preparation for institutes, conferences, and symposiums.
  • Staff and support committees, working groups and all boards convened by the SVP.
  • Assist the SVP with managing relationships with dotted line reports.

Description:

Partnership Relationship Manager

  • Create briefs for high level events and review briefs from campus partners to be shared with the Senior Vice President.
  • Serve as the point of contact for Advancement providing key information to support the SVP’s fundraising initiatives.
  • Assist with the management of the SVPs standing meetings with other senior leaders, board members, governance groups, faculty, staff, and student representatives.

Description:

Communication

  • Drafts reports, statements and other strategic communications on behalf of the SVP and consults with the Communications Manager for IDE on major reports and documents.
  • Works with the SVP on presentations to the Board of Trustees and assists with research and the preparation of speeches, reports and summaries of IDE programs and activities.
  • Serves as communications liaison for the IDE division with college leadership, faculty, staff, local community, and the Dartmouth community at large.
  • Serves on College committees and working groups as needed.
