The License Division’s mission is to issue licenses to qualified applicants. The License Division maintains the licenses for agents and business entities that are in good standing with Ohio’s laws. The License Division is committed to providing the highest level of service to the insurance industry and to the citizens of Ohio.

The Ohio Department of Insurance is seeking a detailed-oriented Insurance Licensing Chief. The purpose of the Insurance Licensing Chief position is to manage a team of insurance licensing supervisors who each manage three (3) to five (5) license processing and/or agent education staff members. The ideal candidate will have excellent customer service skills, management experience, and the ability to multi-task several projects/issues at the same time.

What You'll Do:

Your key responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Plans and administers insurance licensing activities of multiple units (i.e., agent education, license renewals, agent appointments, etc.) within the insurance licensing division;

  • Oversees and coordinates activities within assigned units and supervises insurance licensing supervisors;

  • Researches and reviews insurance statutes, regulations, and bulletins to ensure compliance;

  • Assists supervisors and staff with performing insurance licensing activities that determine license status, eligibility for initial licensure, and continued license eligibility;

  • Oversees collection and processing of insurance fees;

  • Ensures compliance with applicable statutes and manages assigned units consistently with divisional and departmental goals and objectives;

  • Assists higher-level insurance licensing management in review of existing licensing forms and applications to reflect changes in insurance laws and regulations;

  • Recommends procedural revisions for processing licenses;

  • Participates in the State of Ohio examination review process;

  • Presents testimony at departmental hearings and represents division management at meetings;

What’s in it for you:

The final candidate can expect to be paid at step 1 in the assigned pay range as a new hire, unless otherwise required by legislation or union contract. As an Insurance Licensing Administrator, you will receive an increase after six (6) months then an annual step increase until you reach the last step in the pay range. Additionally, there are opportunities for possible annual cost of living (COLA) adjustments and a longevity pay supplement after five (5) years of state service.

This position is designated as telework eligible. The agency has a hybrid work model (i.e., working in the office and working from home on a schedule based on operational need). As such, successful candidates must have and maintain internet at their remote location during normal working hours. In addition, employees must reside in Ohio and within a reasonable distance from the Department location to respond to workplace reporting requirements.

Qualifications


Completion of undergraduate core program in business, insurance, criminal justice, law enforcement, computer science or liberal arts; 7 years experience in insurance field (i.e., regulatory, industry) (e.g., agent licensing, compliance, & legal) to include 24 months training or 24 months experience in management &/or employee training & development and 12 months training or 12 months experience in operation of personal computer.

Or 24 months experience as Insurance Licensing Supervisor, 66755

Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts & draw valid conclusions; handle sensitive inquiries from & contacts with insurance officials & general public; gather, collate & classify information about data, people or things; prepare accurate & concise reports.
