The Laboratory Instrument Technician performs routine maintenance, calibrations, installations, and repairs of instruments/analyzers utilized in the instrument analysis section of the LCMC Laboratory. The Technician ensures safe work compliance, environmental stewardship, and compliance with CITGO's Laboratory procedures; as well as provides technical expertise for shift technicians, conducts training with technicians on common troubleshooting techniques, and assists supervision in new method developments and upgrades to existing processes.

 

Additional Job Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate, plan, and schedule for routine and non-routine maintenance of Instrument Lab equipment including Gas Chromatographs, ICP-MS, and other analyzers in the Instrument Lab section of the Lab
  • Ensure equipment functionality, accuracy, and reliability to maximize utilization of resources for safety, cost, and schedules
  • Communicate with appropriate Management, Shift Foremen, Technicians, Vendors and Chemists including proper notification of unusual or empty samples, specials that should be discontinued, spare parts stock supply levels, out of compliance SQC (statistical quality control) charts, and recommend solutions to improve analysis quality and time
  • Serve as a technical resource for Operations, Process Engineering, and Management to provide expertise for special projects, requests for specialized analyses, and optimize efficiency of Refinery operations
  • Build or modify analytical methodologies as required to address requests and generate data needed to address operational issues or comply with product specifications
  • Identify existing and potential instrument problems, monitor SQC charts to determine instrument's performance, and perform routine maintenance as require reducing equipment downtime leading to outsourcing costs
  • Ensure proper housekeeping, maintain a clean and orderly work area, and assist in maintenance and cleanliness of the refinery laboratory

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, electronics, or related field, or
  • 6 years of instrumentation experience, in lieu of degree
  • 2 years of experience in chromatography repair and troubleshooting experience, preferred
  • Basic knowledge of gas chromatographic techniques, trace nitrogen and sulfur analysis using element specific detection, x-ray analysis techniques, and ICP analytical techniques
  • Must possess a working knowledge of SAP and MS Office functionality to maintain resources 
  • Experience with ChemStation Chromatographic Data Acquisition Software and LIMS (BLISS) System, preferred
  • Valid driver's license
  • Candidates must be able to obtain a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credentials Card)

Hourly employees must be qualified as a temporary supervisor according to the Supervisor Development Process (OSDP, MSDP, or LSDP) and meet minimum qualifications listed above.

 

Eligibility Requirements:

The Maritime Transportation Security Act requires all persons who will need unescorted access to a regulated facility to have a valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC), issued in accordance with the rules established by the United States Coast Guard and the Transportation Security Administration. Candidates selected for employment must meet eligibility criteria to obtain a TWIC card. To obtain more information on the Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC), please visit the Transportation Security Administration’s website
