Job Description - Teacher aide

Overview:

The Department of Communicative Disorders and Deaf Education (COMDDE) at Utah State University (USU) is seeking a Teacher Aide II to work with preschool and kindergarten children who are Deaf or hard of hearing (DHH) in the Sound Beginnings program, as well as assisting the Director with several grant related initiatives. This position is Monday through Friday, up to 38 hours per week and is not eligible for remote work. Due to a variable workload, this position will periodically require unpaid Leave of Absences. Expected number of annual hours is around 1,600.


This position’s duration is contingent on funding, and funding is currently approved for five years.

Responsibilities:

These job duties will take approximately 28 hours per week:

  • Provide direct services in the Sound Beginnings classroom under the direction of the classroom teacher.
  • Manage program materials and food items.
  • Complete administrative tasks (e.g., attendance records, materials organization, events planning).
  • Coordinate schedules and tasks of Works Study students
  • Provide toileting support for preschool children, as needed.
  • Assist teachers in preparing lesson and classroom curriculum materials.
  • Have a positive attitude and good work ethic.
  • Work effectively as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Other duties as assigned.

These job duties will take approximately 10 hours per week:

  • Work with Primary Investigator on grant monitoring and program evaluation activities, such as developing surveys to obtain program data from both current and former scholars, employers, and other stakeholders; updating spreadsheet to document where graduates are currently working; and other pertinent grant evaluation activities.
  • Work alongside PI to develop materials needed for new grant initiatives, such as the Professional Practices Workshop and academic year field experiences with LEA collaborators.
  • In coordination and collaboration with COMDDE, develop and implement social media activities to increase visibility and networking for the LSL Interdisciplinary Graduate training programs and Sound Beginnings.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Two years of relevant experience; or an associate degree is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in an elementary education setting

Employees will work from a home office or work in a campus office environment and are protected from weather conditions or contaminants, but not necessarily occasional temperature changes. Employees nearly continuously sit and often use repetitive hand motion (such as typing). Employees will have frequent engagement in video-conferencing and will nearly continuously view a computer screen.
