Job Description - Research Assistant

HJF is seeking a Research Assistant to perform research and/or development in collaboration with others for projects. Research assistants are responsible for supporting scientists with the execution of human subjects research related to psychology, brain health, and human performance. This includes, but is not limited to, assisting with research protocols, preparing study materials, conducting study data collection procedures, study data processing, and assisting with creating reports and presentations. Research projects would include qualitative and quantitative methods including surveys, interviews, experimentation, and intervention testing. Data collection may be conducted in a variety of settings to include clinical settings, military garrison settings, and field settings.

 

This position will be in support of Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR), West . WRAIR-W conducts research and delivers solutions to optimize brain health to increase resilience and mitigate operational
stress while maximizing soldier health and performance. WRAIR-W is strategically located at Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM) in the state of Washington. WRAIR-W is unique in that it is co-located with service members from all branches of the military and is housed within the infrastructure of a large Military Treatment Facility (MTF), the Madigan Army Medical Center. WRAIR-W's capabilities include the ability to conduct large, randomized controlled trials to assess the efficacy of interventions, perform validation of screening and assessment measures, deliver training, evaluate behavioral health programs, perform field/training assessments to identify risk factors, as well as conduct health readiness surveillance and research consultation. WRAIR-W conducts research efforts focused on behavioral health and applied psychology in an effort to optimize military performance, improve health and readiness, and mitigate operational stress.

 

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike.  Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners. HJF's support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals.

 

  • Performs research projects, including the collection and organization of data. Follows instructions and standard operating procedures.
  • Performs data entry in accurate, timely, and efficient manner. Maintains clear and accurate data collection records and inventories in accordance with Good Clinical and/or Good Laboratory practices.
  • Maintains supplies in the laboratory and ensures proper cleanliness and sanitation in accordance with Good Clinical and/or Good Laboratory practices.
    Creates, collects, disseminates, and maintains appropriate study data.
    Assists in the preparation of technical reports, summaries, and protocols. Creates and communicates detailed observations on experiments.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in either psychology, cognitive science, neuroscience, or related field
  • Minimum of 0-2 years' experience supporting human subjects research required, 2 years preferred.
  • College/university coursework in research methods, statistics, or similar
  • Experience with Microsoft (MS) Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
  • Experience working with military or veteran populations preferred
  • Experience with psychology research software such as Qualtrics, Inquisit, SPSS, or similar preferred

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of standard laboratory techniques.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions.
  • Good communication and analytical skills.
  • US Citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a T3/Secret Clearance

Physical Capabilities 

 

  • Lifting: Requires lifting materials up to 10 lbs.
  • Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods

Work Environment

  •   This position will take place primarily in a laboratory setting.

Compensation  

  • The likely salary range for this position is $37,950 - $61,300 annually. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Final salary will be determined based on market analysis, experience, and education. 

Some positions or sites may require that the incumbent be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Proof of vaccination may be required.

 

Employment with HJF is contingent upon successful completion of a background check, which may include, but is not limited to, contacting your professional references, verification of previous employment, education and credentials, a criminal background check, and a department of motor vehicle (DMV) check if applicable. Any qualifications to be considered as equivalents, in lieu of stated minimums, require the prior approval of the Chief Human Resources Officer.
