ODNR owns and manages state parks, state forests, state nature preserves and wildlife areas. We license all hunting, fishing and watercraft; oversee and permit all mineral extraction, monitor dam safety, manage water resources and serve as the second largest Law Enforcement presence in the State of Ohio.

We are accepting applications for a Mineral Resources Inspector 3 - Field Enforcement within the Division of Oil & Gas Resources Management, headquartered at the Uniontown Office , assigned to Cuyahoga and Lorain counties. What you will do...

  • As Senior Inspector, independently inspects, investigates, and reports on oil and gas related activities in assigned areas; investigates complaints related to oilfield operations or orphan wells; and oversees drilling, plugging, and producing operations on oil and gas wells.
  • Serves as a senior inspector by providing technical assistance to other Division staff regarding oil & gas, producing operations drilling, plugging, reopens, drill deeper, plug back, SIMOPS.
  • Witnesses & monitors all phases of plugging projects such as approving plugging methods & plugging oversight. Reviews plug plans and tracks quantities of oilfield materials.
  • Investigates most complex complaints involving damage to properties &/or pollution & contamination of ground or surface water due to drilling, producing operations, plugging activities & writes investigation reports that include findings & recommendations.
  • Collects evidence of drilling, producing, plugging violations under oil & gas laws & rules, & makes recommendations for corrective action to protect properties, environment, & public health & safety.
  • This position requires travel to field sites to conduct inspections & to be available 24 hours/7 days per week to respond to calls &/or site inspections.

Starting hourly pay of $27.84/hr with multiple pay increase over your first 7.5 years of service, with an end salary of $40.77/hr

UNUSUAL WORKING CONDITIONS : Requires travel; conducts field inspections in inclement weather, on rough terrain & in heavy vegetation while carrying testing equipment weighing up to 20 lbs; exposed to loud noises, dirt, & mud at mine/well sites; may be exposed to toxic substances, blasting & potentially dangerous conditions at mine/well sites; spends high percentage of time alone in automobile in remote areas; on call 24 hrs, 7 days per week; works around heavy equipment.

Qualifications


Completion of undergraduate core program in natural science (e.g., geology; chemistry; hydrology; biology; agronomy); 24 mos. exp. in natural resources with specialization in assigned area (e.g., coal surface mining, mineral surface mining & oil & gas & solution mining); 1 course or 3 mos. exp. in public relations or communications; 1 course or 3 mos. exp. in operation of personal computer; must be able to provide own transportation; valid driver’s license.



  • Or 24 mos. exp. as Mineral Resources Inspector 2, 22932 in assigned area; must be able to provide own transportation; valid driver’s license.

  • Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above. Note: Any new hire accepted for this position will be required to submit to urinalysis prior to appointment to test for illegal drug use. An applicant with a positive test result will not be offered employment per Section 123:1-76-09 of Ohio Administrative Code.
