Reports to District Nurse SALARY $32.00 - $34.00 Hourly DOE

POSITION SUMMARY Supports the educational process by striving to assure the wellness of the students. Provides preventive health services to facilitate the student's optimal physical, mental, emotional, and social growth and development. Identifies problems and disabilities and provides such services as health education, Special Education health assessments, referrals, staff education for student health and safety, health promotion, and delegation of health services to building health aides.
PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES - Assess students' health to identify and address health-related obstacles to learning
- Develop and implement Individualized Health Plans and 504 Plans to reduce impact of chronic and episodic health conditions upon academic achievement
- Administer medications as needed
- Coordination of screening of students' vision and hearing
- Provide medical care that allows medically-challenged students to attend school (i.e. trachea care, catheterization, G-tube feedings and wound care)
- Prevent contagious illness and injuries through surveillance and implementation of appropriate precautionary measures
- Maintain state mandated immunization records and other health assessment data
- Assist families to locate health resources in their community
- Educate individuals and groups about health issues in order to raise wise health consumers
- Attend IEP meetings for students with significant health concerns as necessary
- Conduct training and supervision of school personnel performing health procedures such as first aid and medication administration
- Serve as a health consultant to school personnel in health promotion/education
- Serve as liaison between parent, school, and community in health matters as requested
- Maintenance of statistical data on health rooms and screening activities on site; complete required Colorado Department of Health reports and Medicaid health forms for reimbursement
- Oversee the ordering of health and first aid supplies for buildings including health rooms, labs, shops, kitchen, and physical education areas
- Responsible for district compliance with Colorado State guidelines for health care in schools
- Engages in research and evaluation of school health services to act as a change agent for school health programs and school nursing practices
- Provides consultation in the formation of health policies, goals and objectives for the school district
- Perform other related duties as assigned or requested
POSITION REQUIREMENTS MINIMUM EDUCATION OR FORMAL TRAINING Bachelor's Degree
Registered Nurse License (current in Colorado)
Requires a National School Nurse Certification (NCSN) if you do not have a BSN degree.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE One year of experience within a school district preferred
