Job Description - Social Support Manager

Principal Objectives/Purpose

The Social Worker serves the student whose social, emotional and/or family problems interfere with his/her capacity to function adequately within an educational environment. The Social Worker professionally assesses the problem(s) in order to provide and refer for interventions that help eliminate barriers to learning. Interventions may include the school, family, and/or community resources. This professional relationship is dependent upon its confidential nature and may consist of initial assessment interviews, consultation with staff and family, supportive counseling, crisis intervention, community referrals and/or school based support groups.

The Social Worker supervises the ASU social worker interns and maintains relationships with other community referral partners. As a key member of our support team, they partner with school administration, teachers, success coaches and leaders to develop and implement plans that provide specialized support for youth/students throughout the course of their participation.

Key Result Areas

Provides information and acts as a liaison between the School, Community, and families including, but not limited to, counseling referrals, home visits and access to community resources to assist y outh and students with functioning effectively in an education environment .

  • Provides direct services to Students and their families, within a multi-cultural framework, by providing therapeutic interventions, counseling, crisis intervention (i.e. self-injury, suicide ideation, child abuse, grief/loss), and support groups.
  • Leads in the design, development and execution of student engagement, workshops, and events for students, personnel and sponsors Counseling students
  • Assist with creating individualized plans to help students improve

Providing connections to resources and services to assist youth and students with resolving barriers and issues.

  • Provide consultation and technical assistance to those providing delivery of direct client psychosocial support services.

· Refer clients to community resources , such as food stamps, child care, and health care

Maintains a robust internship program for Masters of Social Work students

  • Develop, implement and maintain individual and team supervision, activities and training with social work interns.
  • Meet all requirements to supervise interns with schools of Social Work

Participate in, develop, coordinate, and implement trainings to lead the provision of positive youth development practices with all youth/students.

  • Demonstrates professional knowledge and engages in ongoing professional development in accordance with the National Association of Social Work Standards and Arizona Department of Education.
  • Develops and updates written protocols for the delivery of psychosocial support services.
  • Provide staff development and training on assessments, reassessments, care plan development, interventions, prioritizing needs, case conferencing, and follow-up.
  • Promotes diversity, including attitudes, practices, and/or policies that hold cultural differences and diversity in the highest esteem.

Manages ACYR's SNAP CAN program

  • Provides access for interns and other team members as well as direct services for SNAP CAN allowable activities and supports.
  • Submits billing for SNAP can services monthly according to program requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • A Master's Degree is required with a major in Social Work and 2 years of work experience since receiving Master's Degree.
  • A minimum of five or more years of experience working with opportunity youth preferable at a nonprofit organization.
  • A minimum of five years or more of experience providing direct supervision and leadership.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Arizona State University School of Social Work Field Instructor certification.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and exemplify leadership and composure under pressure, while maintaining high morale.
  • Experience in the fields of youth development, education, and workforce development is highly desirable.
  • Understands and utilizes positive youth development practices in all levels of work.
  • Prior experience in public speaking, facilitation and good presentation skills, required
  • Must be able to form strong connections with other people and have an understanding of and a compassion for the lives of low income families

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with opportunity youth
  • Experience working with at risk youth a plus.
  • Bi-lingual/bi-cultural.

Background Check

Must have a reputation for honesty and trustworthiness. Misdemeanor and/or felony convictions may be disqualifying depending on type, number, severity, and how recent. The background check will consist of a reference checks, employment, education, and criminal background search.

ACYR is an at-will employer and any offer of employment with ACYR is contingent upon a successful completion of said background check.

Certification/Licenses/Other Requirements

Valid Arizona Level I Fingerprint Clearance Card. Valid Arizona Driver's License. Requires use of insured personal vehicle for agency business.

Work Environment

This position operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.

Physical Demands

This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary.
