On Track OHSU! is part of OHSU's Office of Science Education Opportunities, and works to increase the racial diversity of OHSU's schools and programs and of Oregon's biomedical workforce. On Track works with students starting in 6 th grade, and stays with those same students through high school and college. On Track has been working with students since 2013 and is currently partnering with communities in North Portland, Woodburn, Warm Springs, and Chiloquin.
The On Track OHSU! Middle School Outreach Classroom Lead (Non-OHSU Student Worker) will assist with in-person visits with schools in North/Northeast Portland and in Woodburn, with occasional time spent in our main office located along the South Waterfront.
Outreach activities are generally held two days per month on a weekday with an approximate 4—8hour commitment (8am-4pm) on each of those days.

- Lead classroom of middle school students through pre-developed health science lessons
- Facilitate and lead in-person visits for 6-8 th grade students in North/ Northeast Portland schools, including Faubion PreK-8, Harriet Tubman Middle School, Ockley Green Middle School, Vernon K-8 and Woodburn Schools. Including, French Prairie Middle School and Valor Middle School
- Monitor high school student volunteers as they work with middle school students
- Monitor the in-person or virtual high school student volunteers in your classroom and guide them in assisting small groups of middle school students.
- Communicate clearly with all parties, including middle school students, teachers, administrators, office staff, and OHSU staff
- Communicates quickly and thoroughly with the Middle School Program Coordinator on availability and other aspects pertaining to scheduling and preparation. Communicates effectively and respectively with all parties involved.
- Work with Middle School Program Coordinator to prepare for these events, including facilitation prep, organization of materials and event logistics Prepare all necessary elements for a school visit, ranging from practicing and reviewing lesson content to helping with organizing materials in our South Waterfront office.
- Currently a student enrolled in an undergraduate program (minimum 6 credit hours) OR
- enrolled in a graduate program (minimum 4.5 credit hours).
- Demonstrated experience working with youth
- Demonstrated record of reliable attendance, punctuality and proven successful performance
- Reliable method to travel to North/ Northeast Portland school sites, Woodburn school sites, and South Waterfront office (public transportation or own transportation)
- Knowledge of computer hardware and software, especially
- PowerPoint
- Willingness to serve as a positive and professional role model Flexibility and adaptability
- Time management
- Enrolled in STEM or Education coursework with a strong interest in working with youth in a classroom
- Experience leading middle school age youth through activities; Past or present participation in a diversity program or group
