Job Description

The purpose of this job is to oversee the organization’s payroll functions, ensuring that pay is processed on time, accurately, and in compliance with government regulations.

  1. Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains new staff in the department
  2. Oversees they daily workflow of the department
  3. Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations
  4. Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy
  5. Oversees procedures and processes and manages inquires and requests related to the preparation and distribution of weekly payroll
  6. Processes payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes and other deductions
  7. Ensures accurate and timely processing of payroll updates including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates
  8. Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wages and hour laws and best practices
  9. Identifies and recommends updates to payroll software, systems, and procedures
  10. Monitor paid time off (PTO) plan compliance in partnership with Legal and Human Resources
  11. Perform test payrolls for changes being made to PTO plans, new job codes, new taxes, new deductions, etc. 
  12. Perform payroll close process for weekly payroll, bonus runs, manuals, adjustment, etc.
  13. Oversee and assist manager with all legal settlements, NQ (non-qualified-deferred compensation payments) payouts, and severance payments
  14. Supports cross-functional activities and working sessions
  15. Partners with HR Shared Services team and other key stakeholders with developing and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)
  16. Collects and studies operational processes and performance data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement
  17. Model behaviors that support the company’s common purpose; ensure guests and team members are supported at the highest level
  18. Complete other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, human resources, accounting or related field required
  • Minimum four years of experience in multi-state and Canadian payroll processing required
  • Minimum one year of experience in a leadership role preferred
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite
  • Familiarity with INFOR or other HRIS system preferred
  • Knowledge of garnishment and child support laws including all types of wage assignments
  • Ability to manage and lead a team
  • Teamwork, problem solving, conflict management skills
  • Excellent analytical, critical thinking, and organizational skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to set priorities, multitask, meet deadlines, and resolve problems with a high sense of urgency
