QUALIFICATIONS:

1. High school diploma or equivalent.

2. Criminal history clearance.

3. Demonstrated knowledge and ability through a formal state or local academic assessment.

4. Demonstrated competence of district required training activities OR eqivalent training or experience as determined by the Director of Special Educaiton. This may include CPI or other Physical Restraint Training.

5. May be required to obtain an Oregon Type 10 Passenger Driver Certification, which requires a valid driver's license.


HOURS:

7.25 hours/day

Monday thru Friday


BEGINNING DATE/RATE OF PAY:

August 26, 2024

$18.28 hr. - Placement determined by experience per the negotiated LESPA Contract.


POSITION SUMMARY:

The primary purpose of this position is to assist in data collection and monitoring of behavior support services; perform a variety of specialized learning techniques, communication strategies, and applied behavioral activities or techniques pertaining to the instruction of mild to severely handicapped students; assist in modeling the use of positive behavior support and intervention techniques for other staff.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assists district behavior specialist and/or building administrator with data collecting, writing behavioral support plans and evaluating their efficacy.
  • Implements behavioral strategies as an intervention tool prior to developing a Behavioral Support Plan for an identified student.
  • Maintains behavior data on students and does data entry into computer system for tracking.
  • Assists the district behavior specialist and/or special education teacher with writing behavior components of the Individual Education Plan (IEP) in cooperation with other special education staff and parents.
  • Assists in developing and carrying out individual programs of instruction and support for designated students under direct supervision of the teacher.
  • Carries out program activities in conjunction with student’s IEP and under supervision of classroom/special education teacher(s).
  • Participate in trainings to continue to learn new strategies for behavioral intervention and remediation.
  • Utilizes appropriate measures to provide a safe and secure environment for the student.
  • Participates in staffing or parent meetings as directed.
  • May be required to transport students to and from school under a Oregon Type 10 Driver Certification.
  • Assists, as needed, in accompanying teachers and identified students on field trips and community based training.
  • Assists parents and community members as needed.
  • Participates in district classified assistant staff development program activities.
  • Works harmoniously with others and communicates effectively (both orally and in writing) with students, parents, and staff.
  • Lifts, moves, or restrains a student on a regular basis.
  • Moves students in wheelchairs on primarily level surfaces.
  • Frequent and prolonged talking/hearing conversations.
