This position serves as a System Operations Specialist, supporting the Department of Healthcare and Family Services (HFS) Bureau of Technical Operations . The DoIT Team at HFS is leading a transformation to modernize the way citizens interact with the State of Illinois agency responsible for providing a wide variety of healthcare and family services/benefits to Illinois residents. This position involves the management and scheduling of mainframe production jobs in the Medical Production unit, which provides key support to a variety of agency programs. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, as well as experience in data processing and production control. Job Responsibilities

  • Under general supervision, serves as a Systems Operations Specialist for the Department of Innovation & Technology (DoIT), supporting the Department of Healthcare and Family Services (HFS)

  • Confers with staff to recommend system and documentation modifications

  • Performs advanced production control and job analysis functions

  • Conducts job staging

  • Serves as a backup for Key Information Delivery System (KIDS)/Agency Administrative Information System (AAIS) Production staff

  • Determines explanation for unsuccessful computer runs

  • Keeps abreast of new developments in the Information Technology field

  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of high school
  • Requires three (3) years of previous related experience such as is typically gained at the Data Processing Technician level

OR​​​​​

  • Requires two (2) years of college including course work in the data processing field
  • Requires two (2) years of related experience

Qualified state employees in the employee Upward Mobility Program, may complete combinations of specific proficiency tests and training programs leading to a certificate of proficiency in lieu of the state requirements for this classification.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Extensive knowledge of Production Control procedures
  • Two (2) years of professional experience working with Job Control Language (JCL) for set ups and corrections
  • Two (2) years of professional experience operating and monitoring computer production procedures
  • Two (2) years of professional experience performing job runs utilizing Time Sharing Option (TSO)
  • Two (2) years of professional experience with job submission procedures
  • Two (2) years of professional experience with CA Scheduler, including job processing, concatenations, and overrides
  • Ability to analyze data logically and exercise sound judgement in defining and evaluating problems of an operational or procedural nature
  • Ability to gain and maintain effective working relationships with associates, vendors, clients and others
  • Developed verbal and written communication skills to present technical information to others with clarity and precision
