Program Description
The Family Developmental Center (FDC) is a licensed child development program which has been operated by the Family Service Agency of San Francisco since 1971. Located in the Mission District at 2730 Bryant St., the program offers a developmental childcare and school-readiness program for infants, toddlers and preschoolers (2 weeks to 6 years old). This multicultural, developmental and educational childcare program provides a nurturing, developmentally challenging, and inclusive environment for very young children of low income, at-risk families. We place an emphasis on the provision of culturally sensitive services to children and families. This is reflected in a multi-lingual culturally competent approach to the services as well as a variety of activities that reflect the diverse community of children and parents that are served. We are committed to inclusive, positive environments that build on children’s positive self esteem and self image.
We offer a mainstreaming model for medically fragile and developmentally delayed infants and toddlers. Blending clinical and educational components for the children and their families, the program provides assessment, Individual Educational Plans, and a play-based curriculum which focus on child initiated and teacher directed activities. Additionally, we offer family support, parent education, speech therapy, occupational and physical therapy, Mental Health services for children and families, and an on-site Nurse monitors children’s health. All of FDC’s teaching staff holds early Childhood Education credentials.
