Job Description:

This position exists so that the Northwest Ohio Tech Prep Regional Center (NWTPRC) can serve their designated region in the Career Technical Education area for both secondary and postsecondary service. The Northwest Ohio Tech Prep Regional Center (NWTPRC) is grant-funded and works under the direction and supervision of the Department of Education & Workforce Development (formerly ODE-now DEW) and the Department of Higher Education. Tech Prep Coordinators are assigned to both geographical areas and lead positions on various project. The Tech Prep Coordinator will serve in various roles, including recording, analyzing, and reporting data from both their area and the region. This includes full communication in collaboration with the Chief Administrator and to the other Coordinators, as well as any participants in activities sponsored and/or produced by the Center. This position is responsible for workflow for various events as assigned, including data analysis and reporting to DEW and/or ODHE.


The responsibilities of the Tech Prep Coordinator include:

  • Attends all staff meetings, DEW/ODHE events as assigned, stakeholder meetings, steering team meetings as requested, grant-funded events such as annual Successbound Conference, CTPD Advisory Team/Board meetings as assigned, Business Advisory Council (BAC) meetings as assigned, and other professional development activities as required by DEW/ODHE and/or Chief Administrator. Will produce summary reports of any events as assigned.
Responsible for communicating with stakeholders, including college partners, career planning districts and associate schools. This person will often distribute electronic communication for both their assigned geographic area and also the entire region’s stakeholders. The Coordinator also communicates with DEW and ODHE personnel upon direction of the Chief Administrator.

  • Evaluates and verifies accuracy of CTE-26 reports which move forward to CTPDs and DEW; these are assigned by number of coordinators compared to number of schools and/or programs submitting these documents. Must also be able to conference with school personnel using virtual and live meetings; and as needed will present in group meetings with several schools and institutions.
  • Attends conferences and other professional development activities as assigned by the Chief Administrator/UT Principal Investigator. Will report back to staff information obtained at these activities.
Other duties as requested by Chief Administrator/UT Principal Investigator.

  • Responsible for management of the present budget allotted to the college/post-secondary institution as assigned. Works with Principal Investigator (PI) for preparation, operation, and reporting of budget funds. This position is funded by the Tech Prep Pathways grant, which is a competitive grant awarded biannually. To be noted is that if this grant should not be awarded to the Center, this position would not be guaranteed.
  • Responsible for organizing and delivering professional development activities to teachers and administrators in Northwest Ohio, including speaker/presenter attainment, management of expenses, follow-up of activities, etc. These activities will include topics germane to both Career Development/Pathway implementation and Tech Prep/Career Technical Education (CTE). When these participants are engaged in the activities, they reflect the outstanding education opportunities offered at the University of Toledo. By virtue of UT being the home base for the Region, there is name recognition for UT whenever/ wherever the Senior Tech Prep Coordinator is involved; and is responsible for making sure that proper recognition and positive image is always projected for UT.
  • Uses data collected to analyze the effectiveness of the career tech education at both secondary and postsecondary education levels within the Tech Prep organization to ensure that all goals and objectives are met and reported properly to the Tech Prep Regional Office and the DEW as requested.

Within the University, the Tech Prep Coordinator reports directly to the Chief Administrator/UT Principal Investigator (Executive Director). The PI reports to the Chair and then Dean of the Teacher Education Department within the Judith Herb College of Education. The Tech Prep Coordinator is also responsible to report to the supervisor as assigned at the post-secondary institution in which the Coordinator is assigned as their primary home base.


The Tech Prep Coordinator must have the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment, multitask, and prioritize projects with frequent interruptions. They must be able to drive within the service region and occasionally travel for overnight stays. They will work at the home base office (UT) and in school facilities & meeting venues and will need to be able to work flexible hours based on meeting schedules.





Minimum Qualifications:

  • Five or more years of experience in classroom teaching/administration/work within the Career Tech field.
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication, including the ability to speak with expertise regarding all graduation pathways.
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills, including the ability to serve as a resource for schools to contact to gain clarity and obtain assistance for their specific pathways. Ability to work with Tech Prep Coordinators in evaluation of present pathways and developing new pathways for schools.
  • Advanced technology-related skills, to communicate on multiple platforms. This will include ability to create documents or resources for schools to use and development of networks for schools to illicit new ideas.
  • Outstanding skills in all Microsoft areas such as Excel, Word, Database, Power Point, and some form of publishing software to be determined and willingness to research and implement new technical processes for the Center.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Postsecondary degree in education, curriculum and instruction or educational administration preferred; experience in work related to Career Tech Education will be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Valid Ohio teaching or higher certificate preferred, but not required
