Job Description - Technology Operations Lead

Technology Operations Lead University of California Los Angeles Budgeted Pay Scale: $95,819 - $139,359, annually Full Salary Range:
USD $86,900.00/Yr. - USD $197,300.00/Yr. Department Summary The Technology Operations team oversees the design, development, implementation, maintenance, enhancement, and operations of IT platforms, systems, and applications in service of administrative units. The team also monitors the effectiveness and service delivery standards of these technologies to ensure business outcomes are met through innovative technologies. Additionally, the team focuses on process improvement and service excellence to key campus customers.
Position Summary The Technology Operations Lead will be responsible for ensuring seamless operations and exceptional service delivery across the Technology Operations organization. The position will oversee customer relations, monitor and uphold Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs), and establish/monitor Service Level Agreements (SLAs). In addition to maintaining strong customer relationships, this role involves financial reporting and oversight of IT expenditure in partnership with the ITS financial management team. The Technology Operations Lead will also serve a crucial role in process improvement initiatives, working closely with cross-functional teams to identify inefficiencies and implement streamlined procedures. Collaboration with customers in product teams will be essential to normalize processes and ensure alignment with organizational objectives. Additionally, the role will be responsible for comprehensive gap analysis to identify areas for improvement and drive strategic decision-making. The Technology Operations Lead will positively impact UCLA's operations and culture by enabling IT platforms, systems, and applications in service of the institution's academic, research and service mission. This team member will advance the University's mission by delivering exceptional information technology services comprehensively and consistently across faculty, staff, and students. This role will execute UCLA's vision while modeling UCLA's culture and values. Salary & Compensation *UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Salary offers at the top of the range are not common. Qualifications
  • Five years Experience in one or more of the following fields: information technology, computer science, management, higher education, auxiliary services, technology operations services, or a related field. (Required)
  • Experience solving technical and non-technical problems; able to delegate solutioning when appropriate to the proper resources. (Required)
  • Demonstrated experience cultivating an inclusive environment that values equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging. (Required)
  • Seven or more years Experience working in one or more of the following fields: information technology, computer science, management, higher education, higher education auxiliary services, technology operations services. (Preferred)
  • Two more years Experience leading teams in a management or leadership role, particularly in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment. (Preferred)
  • Experience in complex higher education environments, serving academic and administrative functions of a large public university. (Preferred)
  • Demonstrated success and significant experience with business process improvement and coordination of organizations, teams, and projects. (Required)
  • Advanced understanding of business and process analysis functions. Advanced knowledge of related areas of IT. Ability to maintain an understanding of technology and products relevant to the central IT strategy. (Required)
  • Ability to focus on priorities, strategies, and vision. Ability to identify risks and escalate appropriately. (Required)
  • Demonstrated understanding of IT financial management, optimizing resources, and delivering financial reports. Ability to track IT spending and identify cost reduction opportunities. (Required)
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills and can communicate work assignments to small teams. Demonstrated experience presenting technical information to audiences of technical and non-technical stakeholders. (Required)
  • Demonstrated leadership / management skills, including abilities in persuasion, negotiation, and mentorship. (Required)
  • Advanced project management skills and is able to delegate responsibility, track project progress, supervise others, and advise on competing priorities. Significant experience working in a project-based environment using leading project management practices. (Required)
  • Able to supervise and manage data gathering efforts seeking information from multiple and diverse sources. Demonstrated understanding of how decisions affect teams. Demonstrated ability to make decisions with integrity. (Required)
  • Thinks creatively and advises team on industry-leading practices, such as the incorporation of new technologies or processes. Can manage teams in an ever-changing, fast-paced environment. (Required)

Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations
  • Bachelor's Degree Information technology, computer science, public administration, business administration, communications, or a related field, or equivalent combination of experience/training. (Required)
  • Bachelor's Degree information technology, computer science, public administration, business administration, communications. (Preferred)
  • PMP Certification Within the last 4 years (Preferred)
  • Lean Six Sigma (Preferred)
  • Scrum (Preferred)

Special Conditions for Employment
  • This position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that includes regular visits to campus as needed (for those who work remotely, travel/lodging expenses are not eligible for reimbursement). The anticipated pay range for this position is $95,819 - $139,359, annually; salary is dependent upon the skills and experience of the selected finalist.
