Job Description - Translational Sciences Researcher I

Pay Grade/Pay Range: Minimum: $56,600 - Midpoint: $73,600 (Salaried E9)

Department/Organization: 208122 - Community Med & Population Health

Normal Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm; limited evenings and weekends

Job Summary: The Translational Sciences Researcher I contributes to the planning and design of translational research and creative projects. Performs supporting research and creative activities such as data analysis, monitoring outcomes, performing lab maintenance, and/or performing experiments and creating creative projects. May assist in short- and long-term planning and project goals. May assist with research and creative proposals and dissemination of project findings.

Additional Department Summary: Serves as an investigator on research studies for Community Medicine and Population Health programs at UA's College of Community Heath Sciences (CCHS) under the direction of senior faculty. Research will be focused on translational research. Duties are specifically related to research activities, require an advanced level of knowledge in a field of science or learning, are predominantly intellectual and varied in character, and require consistent use of discretion and judgment. Conducts activities as the administrator/PI of the required research project(s), including data analysis and monitoring outcomes. Meets all required university and federal compliance and reporting requirements. Writes grant applications and contributes to ongoing projects. Assesses and interprets data. Independently designs, conducts, and reports on research activities. Directs and mentors undergraduate and graduate students in research practices, and oversees work of Institute staff engaged in research projects. May assist in both short-term and long-term planning and project goals, as well as in research and creative proposals and dissemination of project findings.

Required Department Minimum Qualifications: PhD or other terminal degree relevant to translational research. Two (2) years post-doctoral research experience. Background in population research, clinical investigation, and implementation science.

Skills and Knowledge: Ability to conduct independent and collaborative research. Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others. Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills. Excellent attention to detail. Excellent computer skills, including Word and Excel. Excellent scientific writing skills with record of scientific publication. Ability to maintain strict confidentially of protected health information and follow HIPAA regulations at all times.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience with conducting research projects relating to community medicine and population health. Experience mentoring student researchers, preparing proposals, and securing external funding.
