Visual & Media Arts Teacher

We are seeking a  full time UPPER SCHOOL VISUAL & MEDIA ARTS TEACHER for the 2024-2025 school year.  The current opening is for Upper School classes (9 th -12 th grades), but the ability to teach Middle School classes is a plus. The arts have a central place in Seattle Academy’s curriculum. Classes in Visual Art, Music, Dance, and Theater are required for all Middle and Upper School students, and all the disciplines have an audition or portfolio tracks for students seeking advance instruction. 

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL BE ABLE TO TEACH A RANGE OF GRADE LEVELS AND SUBJECT AREAS, INCLUDING: 

• Beginning Studio Arts (an introductory course for 9th graders focusing on the Principles and Elements of Art and Design) 
• Film (Beginning level and Animation)
• Fiber Arts

KEY CHARACTERISTICS FOR THE PERSON IN THIS POSITION INCLUDE:

• Ability to work effectively with all constituent groups when needed students, parents, teachers, learning support, counselling and administrative teams; 
• Experience with addressing student behavior;
• Desire, interest, and enthusiasm for working in a school with both middle & upper school-aged students; 
• Compassion, patience, sense of humor, contextual emotional intelligence; 
• Creative and imaginative problem-solving capabilities;
• Ability to manage multiple priorities, set timelines and meet deadlines;
• Excellent organizational, written and verbal communication abilities; 

Successful candidates are required to have a Bachelor’s Degree, and experience working in an educational environment.
