Job Summary

This position offers a hybrid work schedule which includes telework days and in office days at a DLI office building.


Balanced life work schedule; 40 hours per week; flexible work hours (work within 6 am to 6 pm), hybrid work environment (home and office).

  • Analyze workers' compensation claims for statutory benefits and required forms filing. Contact the claim administrator to resolve compliance issues.
  • Provide proactive assistance and educational outreach regarding workers’ compensation issues and compliance with statutes, case law, and rules.
  • Analyze complex workers' compensation issues to advise and educate customers regarding the procedures and strategies used in effective claims management.
  • Intervene in workers' compensation issues/disputes to promote early, efficient and alternative dispute resolution.
  • Regulate and enforce compliance with Workers' Compensation statute, case law, and rules by determining and issuing warning and penalty assessments.
  • Participate in developing and/or presenting training materials for customers.
  • Work extends to negotiating settlements on penalty assessments and conducting onsite audits of insurers and employers.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Three years of workers' compensation claims administration experience*
  • An Associate's degree in Business, Business Administration, Rehabilitation Counseling, Vocational Rehabilitation or related field may substitute for six months of experience; a Bachelor's degree in Business, Business Administration, Rehabilitation Counseling, Vocational Rehabilitation or related field may substitute for one year of experience; a Master's degree in Business, Business Administration, Rehabilitation Counseling, Vocational Rehabilitation or related field may substitute for 18 months of experience.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, conditions, treatment methods, medications, treatment parameters and CPT/ICD 9 and ICD 10 coding; and mathematical skills sufficient to compute and solve complex benefit calculations to determine appropriate distribution of liability.
  • Knowledge of workers’ compensation indemnity benefits.
  • Knowledge of Minnesota Workers' Compensation laws and rules, legal terms and syntax to understand case law decisions and issues presented in case management activities.
  • Research and analytical skills to interpret and apply case law, examine, review and analyze workers' compensation cases for statutory and department/division procedural compliance.
  • Conflict resolution skills to negotiate disputed issues and Interpersonal skills to develop and maintain effective-positive work relationships and the ability to interact effectively with difficult customers and staff.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals with a wide range of backgrounds, who do not share your same culture, ethnicity, language, or other common experiences.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with providing training and giving presentations.
  • Knowledge of Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) processes and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Work Comp Campus.
  • Language skills other than English (such as Somali, Spanish, Hmong, Karen or ASL).
