The Department of Watershed Management is a regional public water and wastewater utility serving 1.2 million people each day. The Department’s core services include treatment and distribution of safe drinking water; collection and treatment of wastewater to a high standard; management of watersheds within the City of Atlanta; and customer care and billing services for 164,000 accounts. General Summary

Inspects and monitors construction projects to ensure that work is being done according to applicable plans and specifications. Duties include but are not limited to: conducting inspections; reviewing plans; maintaining records and files; preparing drawings; preparing reports; and investigating problems. Supervision Received Works under very general supervision. May work independently or with other skilled or semiskilled workers with responsibility for completion of assigned tasks.

• Oversees, inspects and assesses construction projects. Performs inspections of construction sites to ensure compliance with federal, state and city codes, ordinances and regulations. 
• Ensures that contractors are current with required permits. 
• Maintains listing of projects and areas in need of repair. Prepares reports and supporting documentation and drafts resolutions for repairs. Updates and approves utility permits and approves plans for construction contractors.
• Greets visitors and directs them to appropriate person or department. 
• Responds to questions, complaints and requests for information by telephone, in person or by mail from customers, employees and department heads. 
• Makes independent decisions concerning construction projects. Leadership Provided Provides guidance and training as required to lower level staff, interns, temporary employees, etc.

Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

• Knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures of engineering and inspections and all applicable laws, ordinances, and regulations as necessary in the completion of daily responsibilities. 
• Skill in effectively communicating and interacting with contractors, management, employees, members of the general public and all other groups involved in the activities of the City as they relate to the department. 
• Ability to read, understand and interpret construction and engineering reports, blueprints, plans, specifications.
• Ability to make less difficult field and office engineering computations.
