Inspired by this vision, CHS develops, owns and manages affordable housing programs for low-income families and individuals; currently including 2,100 units of housing in 50 different buildings across Western Washington. We provide supportive services for people who have experienced homelessness, low-income seniors, farm worker families, and those who have special physical and mental needs
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
This property is a Permanent Supportive Housing building that utilizes the harm reduction model for homeless and disabled single adults and totals 70 units. Referrals for the units are received through Catholic Community Services and the nascent Coordinated Entry System for Skagit County. Catholic Housing Services and Catholic Community Services actively partner to manage the property and services with 24/hour onsite staff and case management. The property operates with a blend of multiple funding sources including local, State Tax Credits, Commerce and Veterans Administration.
Position Description
The individual in this position will be responsible for janitorial functions including cleaning common areas, grounds, dumpster/Garbage disposal area, inside and outside the building. Perform these tasks with minimum supervision, applying excellence in this area.
Facility Oversight:
Maintain cleanliness of interior and exterior of buildings in an environment where additional cleaning tasks regularly occur at any time: sweeping, mopping, cleaning bathrooms and common areas, vacuuming hallways, cleaning patio, entryway and glass, etc.; stocking supplies, washing walls, removing trash and recycling, etc.
Maintain calm demeanor while performing duties in an environment where regular mental health escalations may occur.
Regularly lift and carry supplies, donations, furnishing, etc.
Assist building maintenance team with vendor scheduling, cleaning, repairs, special projects, etc. as needed.
Auger drains when feasible.
Change light bulbs and fluorescent tubes and dispose of properly
Report any damage or needed repairs to maintenance staff
Perform walkthrough of building(s), as determined by supervisor and/or need
Perform other janitorial duties as assigned
Be in regular communication with staff, check/respond to email and calls/texts, etc.
Notify manager of an incident or emergency situation by phone. If manager is not available, contact the next management personnel identified
Work with the manager to assure appropriate emergency response and resident/building safety
Call 911 in case of fire, gas fumes, life threatening concerns, and safety issues of the residents, building or grounds, or other related emergencies
Alert management to areas of concern, either observed or mentioned by other residents
General Responsibilities:
Observe/follow guidelines on confidentiality rights of residents and respect their privacy
Alert management staff to issues/concerns regarding building or residents that are observed in course of performing duties
Become familiar with landlord/tenant law and actions that are permissible for landlords
Follow all safety guidelines, always use personal protective equipment, etc.
Keep janitorial storage spaces and paperwork organized; maintain inventory of basic supplies, notify supervisor
Attend trainings required of employees and staff meetings as scheduled
Maintain accurate record of hours worked and turn in timesheets on schedule
Contribute to the mission of Catholic Community Services and Catholic Housing Services
Assist with other staff members’ duties when they are out; cross-train with other positions
Maintain an accurate, organized filing system
Support Division Director, Program Director, Maintenance and Office Staff in special projects and tasks as needed
Participate in a constructive manner during staff meetings and all other forms of correspondence;
Contribute to and support a positive, team-oriented work environment and attitude
OTHER:
Team member with the ability to travel
Promote and foster good relations between all staff members including keyholders, volunteers, etc.
Follow Fair Housing Guidelines and Landlord Tenant law
Observe/follow guidelines on confidentiality rights of residents and respect their privacy
Maintain cooperative relationships with businesses in surrounding neighborhood
Contribute to the mission of Catholic Community Services and Catholic Housing Services
Attend all required meetings and trainings and larger community meetings as needed
Perform other job-related duties as assigned

Job Conditions
This position requires the employee to work in an environment where there may be exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and potentially infectious material and chemicals, dust, noise and odors. Working conditions include frequent interruptions, moving between the various buildings, sharing workspace with colleagues, working alone, working long hours during peak periods, computer use, and interactions with individuals who are angry and/or dealing with mental health and substance abuse issues.
Minimum 6 months of janitorial experience.
