Job Description - Director, Customer Design

OVERVIEW

The Director, Design is a critical leadership role responsible for operations from customer approval to activation. This role is focused on safety, efficiency, technical quality installation, inspection, system activation, and ensuring Sunrun becomes the beloved and trusted partner for our customers.

This role will drive regional strategy and execution of forecasting, quality, capacity, cycle time, and customer experience. This role will collaborate across the business to set and achieve customer experience, growth, and profitability targets. This role will lead a national team and be responsible for the designs from sale to activation.

RESPONSIBILITIES

+ Ability to motivate, and mentor Design Managers along with a variety of personnel involved in the design and permitting of solar projects to create a positive, constructive, and performance driven environment

+ Manage and drive improvements through 3rd party vendor teams to support department and company goals

+ Develop 3rd party vendor strategies and best practices

+ This position requires risk analysis, critical thinking and the ability to provide solutions to the benefit of the company, markets, and projects

+ Ability to evaluate and manage the resources and processes required for the successful design and activation of residential solar projects. Ensuring that the teams focus on Safety, Quality, Productivity, Capacity Utilization, Customer Service, and Profitability

+ Identify and Drive “Best Practices” throughout the team.

+ Ability to understand and manage performance to key performance metrics including forecast delivery

+ Drive continuous improvement by working with Leadership and SMEs from Supply Chain, Permitting, Inspections, Sales, Quality, Safety, and Home Upgrades. Conduct weekly meetings with each group to identify areas of improvement and best practices. Deliver weekly reporting on performance, plans, and improvements.

+ Utilize data to drive decision making, process improvement, and uncover performance, cost or quality opportunities.

+ Work closely with the Sales Leader(s) to understand sales performance trending and position resources as required by sales volume

+ Work to ensure that we are delivering an excellent customer experience and address escalated customer concerns as necessary

+ Negotiate solutions, resolve conflicts and provide solutions in the best interest of Sunrun, and our customers and employees

+ Assist in the training and mentoring of new members to the Design Leadership Team

+ Cultivate and promote a positive culture

REQUIREMENTS

+ Excellent skills in complex analytic problem solving, project management, change management, & group process. Must exhibit efficiency, collaboration, candor, openness, & results orientation

+ Sunrun is a world-class team. We are seeking world-class candidates with demonstrated success in a rapidly-changing and expanding organization. Former experience as a consultant or demonstrated focus area on productivity in industries with a large residential installation and services component is highly desired

+ 5+ years’ experience as a business leader with a strong background in analysis, continuous improvement, lean operations, and delivering training and best-in-class approaches to new and existing employees

+ Demonstrated a clear track record of working collaboratively with internal and external parties across all the company to drive collective success and has built key relationships, managed and mentored a strong team of high performers

+ Understanding of financial metrics and productivity measurements

+ Experience with the deployment of automated tools and processes to improve efficiency and accuracy

+ Proven leadership skills in program/project management, drive continuous improvement, and ability to develop and manage a very large budget

+ Experience with technology including Salesforce, Oracle BI, GoogleSuite, Workday, and similar programs is expected

+ Track record of driving operational efficiency with 20-30% productivity improvements achieved, as well as track record in driving gains in quality and executing highly effective training programs is highly desired

+ Undergraduate degree required, or equivalent experience

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

+ Travel commercially as directed or required (by car and plane)

+ Ability to work safely on construction jobsites, and warehouses

+ Use of standard office equipment, phone, computer, printer

+ Able to listen and communicate verbally

+ Able to sit for extended periods of time

+ Able to stand for up to 8 hours

Candidates in locations outside this local area may have a different starting salary range for this opportunity which may be higher or lower. Please speak with your recruiter to learn more.

Starting salary/wage for this opportunity:

$129,511.46 to $172,681.95

Other rewards may include annual bonus eligibility, which is based on company and individual performance, short and long term incentives, and program-specific awards. Sunrun provides a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, an employee wellness program, life and disability insurance, a retirement savings plan, paid holidays and paid time off ( PTO ). A candidate’s salary history will not be used in compensation decisions.
