Description

Summary:

Primarily responsible for installing, testing and maintaining industrial electrical equipment and control systems. Duties could include, but are not limited to fabricating and installing electrical conduit, cable tray, wireways and other raceway systems; installing, connecting and maintaining low, medium, and high voltage motor control systems and switchgear; installing and terminating high voltage power cable, instrument cable and signal cable; installing and maintaining building and area lighting systems; installing and connecting electric motors and generators.

Expected to demonstrate safe and competent use of hand and power tools and equipment associated with the installation and connection of electrical apparatus.

Knowledge, Experience, Education:

Acceptable reasoning ability usually associated with this classification:

• The ability to apply principles of rational system to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where limited standardization exists. Interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, and diagrammatic or schedule form.

Acceptable math ability usually associated with this classification:

• The ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers, fractions, decimals, and metrics; to calculate surfaces, volume, weights, and measures. Use formulas as found in Industry Approved Trade handbooks.

Acceptable language ability usually associated with this classification:

• The ability to read and comprehend safety signs and instructions in English; read and understand instructions in English in the correct use and care of tools and equipment; read and understand "Warning Labels” in English that are placed on various containers; also, read procedures in English in mechanical drawing and layout work. The ability to write reports in English with proper format, punctuation, spelling and grammar.

Physical:

• Outdoors, may involve extreme hot or cold weather conditions.

• Spends most of the workday standing on feet, requires stooping, bending, squatting.

• May require working in cramped and uncomfortable positions.

• May be required to climb about machinery and climb ladders, scaffolds, and catwalks.
