Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Agriculture’s Division of Cannabis Regulation is growing and is seeking qualified candidates to ensure the success of this developing area. The Department is tasked with licensing and regulating adult use cultivation centers, cannabis craft growers, cannabis infusers, cannabis transporters, and Community College Vocational Cannabis Pilot Programs. The Division of Cannabis Regulation is seeking a highly motivated individual to serve as a working supervisor of the Design and Construction Section. The Design & Construction Section Supervisor Acts as the Division of Cannabis Regulation’s expert on architectural design and oversees construction management of licensed cannabis business entities. They will also Plan, assigns, reviews, and approves confidential/proprietary design work submitted by licensed cannabis entities as a result of the Division modification and alteration application process. “The Administration is committed to creating a fair and equitable adult-use cannabis industry in Illinois. IDOA is helping achieve that goal by providing Illinois residents, specifically those who live in communities that were disproportionately impacted by the failed war on drugs, with multiple entry-points to this new industry." Essential Functions

  • Reviews confidential design plans and specifications to ensure accuracy and completeness with cannabis regulations and applicable codes, including but not limited to, building, electrical, fire, and plumbing.
  • Makes recommendations to supervisor and Bureau Chief on policy and procedures to safely and effectively implement, regulate, and enforce all applicable codes of approved legislation.
  • Prepares comprehensive and technical reports, memoranda, letters and recommendations, and drafts orders.
  • Investigates incidents or accidents that are deemed to be difficult, complicated or involve sensitive information or subjects to improve the operation and maintenance functions of entities under the authority of the Division.
  • Investigates complicated cases.
  • Writes, evaluates, and analyzes.
  • Provides general technical assistance.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of two years of college with coursework in engineering.
  2. Requires three years of technical experience in engineering.
  3. It is a requirement of this position that you are able to complete the Certified Fire Inspector One certification program and the Life Safety Code Surveyor certification program within the first 6 months of employment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prefers extensive knowledge of the principles and practices of engineering.
  • Prefers extensive knowledge of certain areas of mathematics including geometry, college algebra and trigonometry.
  • Prefers extensive knowledge of the utilization of materials, planning and composition, and construction techniques.
  • Prefers extensive knowledge of engineering measuring devices, instruments, laboratory and sampling equipment.
  • Prefers experience to make and maintain records of technical computations.
  • Prefers experience to recognize and report errors, inconsistencies, and other deficiencies in technical data.
  • Prefers experience to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Prefers experience to establish and maintain satisfactory working relationships with public and private officials.
  • Prefers experience in using engineering equipment, instruments, and devices.

Conditions of Employment

  • Requires ability to pass background check.
  • Requires a valid driver’s licenses and the ability to frequently travel statewide.
  • Requires successful completion of the Certified Fire Inspector One certification program within the first 6 months of employment.
  • Requires successful completion of the Life Safety Code Surveyor certification program within the first 6 months of employment.
