Department Overview

Gas Operations is focused on ensuring the safe and reliable flow of natural gas to our customers and responsible for all aspects of PG&E’s gas distribution and transmission operations, including planning, engineering, maintenance and construction, restoration and emergency response.

 

LNG/CNG Engineering and Operations department specifically is responsible for areas related to portable natural gas and natural gas vehicle fueling stations as the asset owner for 32 natural gas vehicle stations throughout the service territory and various sized liquified natural gas (LNG) and compressed natural gas (CNG) portable assets to support planned and unplanned gas outage. In addition, LNG/CNG E&O owns LNG/CNG portable assets, mobile CNG stations, cross compressors, generators, odorizers, and flares used to support planned and unplanned projects in Gas Operations.

 

Position Summary

The Gas Facility Engineer provides engineering, technical support, equipment design, and project management for LNG/CNG assets including CNG stations, natural gas generators, and mobile compressors. The Engineer identifies and supports high priority work to reduce risks, improves processes, and supports their implementation, improve equipment performance and reliability, perform condition assessments, troubleshoot, and resolve equipment problems. Serve as liaison between PG&E project teams and LNG/CNG team to provide operational support which can include but not limited to pipeline cross compression, flaring, load generation, and odorization.

 

Location is flexible within the PG&E Service Territory (preference for incumbent to be located in one of the main LNG/CNG HQs- Rocklin, Manteca, San Ramon, Merced), please note hiring leader will make final decision of what are appropriate headquarters for the role based on business need.

 

Position will require up to 40% of travel time in work schedule.

 

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. The assigned work location will be within the PG&E Service Territory.

 

This position is a DOT (Department of Transportation) covered classification and is subject to random drug and/or alcohol screening.

 

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.

 

A reasonable salary range is:

  • Minimum Base Salary (Bay Area) $122,000.00
  • Mid Base Salary (Bay Area) $158,000.00
  • Maximum Base Salary (Bay Area) $194,000.00

 

  • Minimum Base Salary (California) $116,000.00
  • Mid Base Salary (California) $150,000.00
  • Maximum Base Salary (California) $184,000.00

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Solves moderately challenging problems by developing and utilizing new and innovative engineering design and technical solutions.
  • Performs engineering work of moderate scope and complexity selecting from different tools, methods, approaches and tactics to resolve problems and obtain solutions
  • Establishes solutions or repair methods for moderate to complex asset issues.
  • Provides engineering and technical solutions by using existing tools, methods, approaches and tactics in new ways or by modifying and improving them.
  • Leads or support teams from multiple organizations and/or vendors for system including but not limited to repairs, investigations or implementation of assigned program work for service territory.
  • Works independently under limited direction and guidance and sets own priorities.
  • Reviews work performed with supervisor upon request
  • Has knowledge of applicable principles, codes, regulations, polices, and procedure
  • Stand on-call for transmission pipeline or station incidents during off-hours

 

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering
  • 3 years of relevant natural gas experience
  • CA Class C License, or equivalent

 

Desired:

  • Experience in construction, 1 year
  • Experience in natural gas operations, especially at high pressure
  • Experience in gas compression
  • Experience in PLC programming/electrical controls
  • Knowledge of industry codes and standards (e.g., ASME, NFPA, API, etc.)
  • EIT (Engineer in Training) Certification or PE (Professional Engineer) License
