Job Summary

Design and develop course curricula and instructional materials in support of faculty teaching efforts. Activities focus on creating new courses and programs as well as enhancing and improving existing course offerings and involve both credit and non-credit programs. This position will interact on a consistent basis with: academic faculty, staff and technology vendors. This position typically will advise and counsel: academic faculty and staff. This position will supervise: NA.

Responsibilities

Job Duty 1 -
Articulate the advantages and disadvantages of various pedagogical principles and technology applications to assist faculty with the design of appropriate instructional delivery methods for both new courses and existing courses. Job Duty 2 -
Share an understanding of instructional design issues related to teaching and learning in traditional, hybrid, and distance/online courses; demonstrates best practices. Job Duty 3 -
Coordinate technology used with the larger Georgia Tech system. Job Duty 4 -
Stay current on instructional software and hardware available in the marketplace; advise management as to new products and trends which may have an impact on the department; propose strategies for incorporating these products and trends into offerings. Job Duty 5 -
Design and construct websites to communicate with faculty and students. Job Duty 6 -
Prepare grant applications and proposals. Job Duty 7 -
Complete special projects with faculty in developing proposals for contract courses, demonstrations for various groups, etc. Job Duty 8 -
Perform other duties as assigned Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
Master's Degree in Instructional Systems, Instructional Design, or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience Required Experience
Four to five years of job related experience Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have experience in the following:

  • Create engaging learning activities and compelling course content
  • Work with subject matter experts and faculty to identify target audience's needs
  • Set instructional end goals and create content that matches them
  • Visualize instructional graphics, the user interface and the finished product
  • Analyze and apply trends and best practices in learning technologies and instructional design
  • Provide exercises and activities that enhance the learning process
  • Create supporting material/media (audio, video, simulations, role plays, games etc.)
  • Devise modes of assessment, such as tests or quizzes, to measure the effectiveness of the course
  • Maintain project documentation and course folders
  • Maintain course updates within the LMS
  • Current working experience with various LMSs (Canvas preferred)
  • In-depth knowledge of various learning theories and instructional design models
  • Basic programming knowledge
  • Visual design skills (Adobe Suite)
  • Ability to write instructional text, audio and video scripts

Skill in establishing and maintaining effective interrelationships with faculty in multiple academic areas and the ability to coordinate and/or manage multiple projects is required as is the ability to create online courses, utilize course management systems, write and manage grant proposals and manage internal and outsourced resources.

This job requires advanced expertise in instructional design principles, learning theory and student learning processes. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective interrelationships with faculty in multiple academic areas and the ability to coordinate and/or manage multiple projects is required as is the ability to create online courses, utilize course management systems, write and manage grant proposals and manage internal and outsourced resources.
