The Opportunity :

Join our dynamic Lake Nona Team as a Plumber I, providing essential plumbing support in the operational maintenance, installation, and repair of sanitation components of campus facilities. This position will troubleshoot and respond to customer requests to provide a safe, functional, clean, efficient, and attractive living and learning environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform planned scheduled work defined as preventive maintenance (PM)/predictive maintenance (PDM) geared toward proactively identifying potential failures or preventing failures.

  • Conduct PM repair (PMR) which are repairs of defects found during a PM or PDM.

  • Conduct corrective repairs in reaction to a user reporting issues to restore functionality.

  • Maintain equipment related to minor and major plumbing configurations. Operate pumps, faucets, valve traps, pipes, water heaters, and emergency showers. Operate VCR equipment to monitor and troubleshoot sewage systems.

  • Locate and correct plumbing failures and malfunctions; Maintain, install, and repair backflow preventer; Address emergency plumbing repairs.

  • Perform Support work by assisting with work done by central shops, contractors, other zones and departments, or events on campus. Perform routine work defined as recurring work that has no specific frequency and remains open for an explicit amount of time.

  • Fulfill all work requests as assigned through the Integrated Work Management System (IWMS); Complete work orders timely, recording labor hours, action code, shop stock, and trade notes.

  • Perform routine and project work in conjunction with scheduled tasks to support or enhance the university assets.

Minimum Qualifications :

Completion of an approved apprenticeship program in plumbing; or a high school diploma and two years of appropriate experience. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219.

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Working knowledge of plumbing trades classifications and functions including tools, materials, and task-specific sequencing required for maintenance, sanitation, and repairs.

  • Flexibility for utilization by trade with most urgent requirements and adaptable in assignments.

  • Ability to read blueprints, use various electrical meters, and construct and install power supplies.

  • Possess painting knowledge and skills.

  • Familiarity with operation and powered drain-cleaning machine, water, and gas shut-off points campus-wide.

  • Ability to communicate in conversational English to work effectively with customers and team members, operate electronic equipment (iPod Touch for AiM PM checkpoints), comprehend standard safety procedures, and utilize telecommunication devices.

  • Ability to operate essential tools, equipment, and operate a vehicle, as necessary.

  • Demonstrated proficiency using standard office software applications for work order systems (IWMS).

  • Demonstrated capabilities in the following: interpersonal skills, memory, attention to detail, calculation, reading, evaluating, comprehension, and organizing.

  • Ability to understand and follow written/oral instructions.

  • Ability to use approved EH&S chemicals to perform essential job functions.

Health Assessment Required:  

UCF policy requires completion and passing of a physical exam for this position.

Special Instructions to the Applicants:

Position requires a valid Class E driver’s license. This position may involve driving to various locations on and off campus to conduct University business.

May be required to participate in respiratory, medical examination, and training in the use of respirators.
