Job Description - PLUMBER M

Under general direction, the purpose of the position is to perform skilled to advanced craft-mechanical plumbing work in various installation, repair, maintenance and service tasks for the school district. Employees in this classification function with considerable independence and latitude concerning methods, materials, and priority of assigned work orders. Work areas include, but are not necessarily limited to, fixtures, water and wastewater lines, lift stations and treatment plants, portable hook-ups, lavatory systems, and new construction. Position coordinates assigned project schedules in a manner to minimize disruption in school district activities. Performs related work as directed.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Responds to internal and external customers in a timely, accurate, courteous and empathetic manner representing OCPS in a positive light. Performs skilled to advanced craft-mechanical plumbing work in various installation, repair, maintenance and service tasks for the school district. Installs, maintains, services, and/or repairs plumbing fixtures and apparatus for the district, i.e., water coolers, lavatory and kitchen fixtures and systems, water and wastewater lines, lift stations and treatment plants, portable classroom hook-ups, new construction. Services or replaces components including, but not limited to, valves, switches, pumps, traps, hose bibs, backflow devices, screens, and lines. Ensures compliance with and adherence to applicable codes, ordinances, building, and safety standards regarding plumbing installation, service, and repair activities. Receives work orders, prioritizes assignments, and coordinates equipment, tools, materials, and supplies required per job site. Works collaboratively and confers with contractor service providers, as applicable to assigned work orders. Fills out and maintains work orders and purchase orders for required materials, supplies and equipment; maintains daily activity logs, and maintenance records concerning assigned service vehicle and equipment. Performs necessary calculations in preparing materials and work sites for installation, maintenance or repair, i.e., pipe dimensions, line layout, ditch and line grading, angles and distances. Operates various manual, electrical, and gas-powered equipment and tools in performing assigned tasks, i.e., line cleaners, jack hammers, pipe threaders, concrete saws, back hoes, drills, pipe wrenches. Performs cleaning and maintenance of equipment, tools, materials, and vehicles utilized per work site; ensures adherence to principles and practices of safe equipment use and operation. Coordinates assigned work orders in a manner to minimize disruption in routine district activities, to include planning complex and long term projects during non-operating hours and vacation schedules. Responds to emergency or critical incidents in order to confine, resolve, and/or prevent flooding or other hazardous conditions. Responsible for keeping up to date on current technology, as job appropriate, being used by OCPS. With the support of the district, attends training to ensure skill level in various technologies is at the level required to perform in current position. Responsible for timely and accurate information they maintain as part of their job responsibilities. While the following tasks are necessary for the work of the unit, they are not an essential part of the purpose of this position and may also be performed by other unit members. Performs related duties as directed. MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or GED; supplemented by minimum five (5) years progressively skilled and knowledgeable commercial and/or industrial experience in craft mechanical plumbing trades work, and demonstrated ability to read and interpret blueprints, architectural drawings, and project specifications; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Requires ability to obtain and maintain a valid commercial driver’s license. Effective August 24, 2009, all new hires to this position must successfully complete the Industrial Physical Capability Screening (IPCS); previous incumbents holding this position without a break in service are not required to have this screening. PERFORMANCE APTITUDES Data Utilization : Requires the ability to review, classify, categorize, prioritize, and/or analyze data and/or information. Includes exercising discretion in determining data classification, and in referencing such analysis to established standards for the purpose of recognizing actual or probable interactive effects and relationships. Human Interaction : Requires the ability to exchange information for the purpose of obtaining information or clarifying details. Performs such within well-established policies, procedures and standards. Equipment, Machinery, Tools, and Materials Utilization : Requires the ability to operate, maneuver and/or control the actions of electric and gas-powered equipment, and hand-held tools, such as pipe wrenches and cutters, threaders, saws, and drills. Verbal Aptitude : Requires the ability to utilize a wide variety of reference, descriptive, and advisory data and information. Mathematical Aptitude : Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication and division; calculate decimals and percentages; utilize geometric principles and formulas. Functional Reasoning : Requires ability to apply principles of rational systems. Ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form. Ability to exercise independent judgment to adopt or modify methods and standards to meet variations in assigned objectives. Situational Reasoning : Requires the ability to exercise the judgment, decisiveness and creativity required in situations involving evaluation of information against measurable or verifiable criteria. ADA COMPLIANCE Physical Ability : Tasks involve the ability to exert very heavy physical effort in very heavy work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of heavy objects and materials (up to 100 pounds) and occasionally heavier items (100 pounds or over). Sensory Requirements : Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds. Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate depths. Most tasks require visual perception and discrimination. Environmental Factors : Tasks are regularly performed with exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as strong odors, wetness, humidity, machinery, vibrations, temperature and noise extremes, disease, and toxic/poisonous agents.
