Apex Technical School is an adult vocational technical school located in Long Island City, New York providing top-tier vocational training in high-growth trades. Founded in 1961, we serve about 1,400 students annually with seven 900-hour certificate courses in skilled trades, including refrigeration, automotive service, auto body, welding technology, electrical and advanced electrical, plumbing, and construction. SCHEDULE FOR A PLUMBER TEACHER

This full-time plumbing teaching position in human services works during the day.

YOUR LIFE AS A PLUMBER TEACHER

When working as a Plumber Teacher with our human services nonprofit, you have the exciting opportunity to inspire and instruct our students in theory and hands-on curriculum within the skilled trades. You are responsible for determining the best methods to deliver needed training and course instruction while preparing materials, locations, and supplies accordingly. Using your exceptional communication skills, you explain and demonstrate tasks to be performed, emphasizing all safety aspects of the jobs and tasks. You also review any applicable job safety analyses with each student, ensuring they have the tools they need to succeed.

Additionally, you schedule, organize, and provide supplemental training when necessary, ensuring that tools and equipment are properly cleaned, stored, and maintained for optimum performance and safety. You guide, assign, schedule, and supervise each student's work, ensuring that all tasks are completed in accordance with the assigned curriculum. As a valued member of teaching staff, you provide timely and constructive student evaluations based on performance and goals. You also ensure each student follows all established rules and meets expectations for appropriate conduct within the school.

You stay up to date on best practices in your field by participating in and completing professional and individual career development sessions as required. You consistently contribute to our school's success by accepting new assignments, helping team members, learning new skills, and striving to improve team results.

WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • BPSS license within the trade
  • 3+ years of experience in the trade
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Classroom
  • Thorough understanding of the correct and safe operation of all manually operated and power-related tools and equipment
  • Covid-19 vaccination
