Key Responsibilities
- Materials Testing & Inspections: Perform a wide range of materials testing, construction inspections, and drafting.
- Civil Engineering Duties: Prepare reports, designs, plans, and specifications for civil improvements on various projects including residential, commercial, and industrial.
- System Development: Design, permit, inspect, and manage the development of water systems, septic systems, and storm management facilities.
- Material Selection & Inspection: Select, monitor, and inspect construction materials for use in projects.
- Regulatory Compliance: Work with agencies, jurisdictions, and clients to obtain planning and building regulation approvals.
- Professional Liaison: Liaise with architects, structural engineers, and other professional staff. Respond to questions from contractors, public agencies, and officials.
- Project Management: Oversee and administer private and public works projects. Assist in solving field problems in conjunction with Project and Construction Managers.
- Technical Reporting: Prepare technical reports concerning different disciplines within Civil Engineering.
- Traffic Studies: Perform traffic studies to determine existing and projected level of service (LOS) standards on roads and intersections.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
- Certification: Certified as Engineer-in-Training (EIT), having passed the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam.
- Experience: Experience in performing engineering computations and preparing engineering designs.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in AutoCAD or similar computer-aided drafting programs preferred.
- Physical Ability: Ability to lift and move up to 70 pounds.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Teamwork: Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Work Ethic: Strong work ethic and accountability.
- Technical Writing: Strong technical writing and analytical skills.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Working knowledge of building codes, design manuals, and construction practices preferred.
Preferred Skills
- Software Proficiency: Experience with AutoCAD, Microsoft Suite, and phone systems (Mitel).
- Analytical Skills: Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Interpersonal Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Regulatory Standards: Knowledge of state and federal regulations and standards for design, bidding, and construction.
- Judgment: Skill in analyzing, interpreting, and preparing reports, and exercising professional engineering judgment.
Physical Demands/Work Environment
- Work Environment: Work is typically performed in an office setting and outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather.
- Physical Demands: The work involves sitting, standing, and walking, with occasional exposure to machinery with moving parts.
