Job Description - Project associate - Urgent Role

We are looking for a motivated Project associate to join our vibrant team at University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA.
Growing your career as a Full Time Project associate is an awesome opportunity to develop useful skills.
If you are strong in cooperation, problem-solving and have the right initiative for the job, then apply for the position of Project associate at University of Virginia today!

The University of Virginia’s Office for Sustainability is seeking a Sustainable Labs Project Associate. The Sustainable Labs Project Associate will expand the work being done to reduce the impacts of UVA labs. This includes providing more dedicated and strategic support for some of the Program’s higher-impact initiatives such as change management of Smart Labs buildings, document and database maintenance and development, and project monitoring for Smart and Green Labs projects.

At UVA, labs contribute to a third of the university's energy use, despite accounting for only 10% of our square footage. To address the energy, water, and materials intensity of labs, in alignment with the UVA Sustainability Plan, UVA launched a Green Labs outreach and engagement program in 2015. Now, with UVA’s recent commitment to becoming carbon neutral by 2030 and fossil fuel free by 2050, retro-commissioning our most resource-intensive buildings through the Smart Labs program will be critical for reaching these goals.

Introducing Smart Labs in 2019 advanced sustainability through lab LED lighting retrofits, building HVAC audits, and comprehensive ventilation risk assessments resulting in subsequent air change reductions. In addition, Sustainable Labs has bundled Green Labs outreach and education initiatives with Smart Labs projects to capitalize on the many safety and sustainability opportunities found in labs. In the last year alone, the program achieved a 23% decrease in MTCO2 emissions, and saved over $600k in just two buildings.

We support workplace flexibility when appropriate but 100% remote work is not possible.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assists in the development and maintenance of supporting documents and databases for Sustainable Labs projects and buildings in the Smart Labs portfolio
