Hatch is currently seeking a highly motivated Rail Vehicle Mechanical Engineer to join our North American Infrastructure group to support work in the Baltimore, Maryland area.

 

In this role, the ideal candidate is a mechanical engineer with excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment. Candidates must have knowledge of core mechanical engineering concepts and have a minimum of 8 years of professional engineering experience. Experience working in the rail industry is required. An PE registration is desirable but not required.

 

As the successful candidate, you will:

  • Assist in comissioning a fleet of rail vehicles.
  • Participate in inspections of rail vehicle maintenance activities.
  • Develop engineering change notices (ECNs).
  • Develop field modification instructions (FMIs).
  • Monitor warranty adherence and support data entry into database system.
  • Identify fleet defects.
  • Approve FMIs.
  • Troubleshoot and assist in repairing rail vehicle equipment.
  • Review preventative maintenance procedures.
  • Assist in the review of carbuilder documentation, and preparation of detailed descriptions of the review findings.
  • Participate in technical working sessions to address issues raised by clients.
  • Inspect and review prototype and first article equipment and prepare detailed descriptions of review findings.
  • Participate in quality assurance and manufacturing audits under the direction of senior staff.
  • Prepare technical briefs, presentations and reports that identify work progress, defects/non-conformances, and areas of concern.
  • Assist with the conduct of forensic investigations of failed components and equipment and reporting findings under the direction of senior staff.
  • Develop technical specifications for mechanical equipment.
  • Provide engineering support as required.

 

You bring to the role:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • A minimum of 8 years of mechanical engineering experience
  • Experience in the rail industry
  • Basic knowledge of electro-mechanical and structural engineering
  • Familiarity with mechanical engineering (Kinematics and Dynamics; Materials, Pneumatics, Hydraulics, and HVAC)
  • Excellent analytical, written, and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrate strong organizational skills, work well within a team, take direction from other senior staff members, be able to multi-task on a variety of work assignments, and meet deadlines.
  • Valid driver license (travel to various carhouses and infrastructure sites required)
