Job Summary

PSE&G is seeking a new member for the Technical Training team within the Centralized Service organization. The team performs analysis, design, development, evaluation, and delivery of technical training for PSE&G line of business clients. This position will train entry level apprentice and incumbent employees on API 1104 Pipeline Welding skills for natural gas distribution in accordance with their job specifications, collective bargaining obligations and regulatory requirements.
This position is on-site at our Gas Training Center in Edison, New Jersey. Training objectives are to provide instruction and evaluation in the knowledge and practical competencies to perform Oxygen-Acetylene Cutting and Gas Welding, and successfully qualify in Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Metal Inert Gas welding (MIG), and to qualify welders through the evaluation of test welds made in accordance with the PSE&G Qualified Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), API standard 1104 (49 CFR 192.225), and applicable, PHMSA Rules.
Additional on-call / overtime / field assignments can be available as qualified by the Gas Districts.

Job Responsibilities

The Training and Development Specialist will instruct, train, develop, demonstrate safe workplace practices and behaviors for a skilled and efficient utility work force working in connection with a team of training professionals. The key elements of this role are:

• Conduct classroom presentations and hands-on field instruction and demonstration of safe work practices in pipeline welding, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
• Work with the Design and Assessment team to develop and maintain technical training materials as a subject matter expert in pipeline welding.
• Evaluate the trainee and employee technical training across multiple concurrent gas distribution instructional efforts. Facilitate technical training assessments/evaluations across multiple, concurrent gas distribution instructional programs.
• Provide assistance in other instructional areas or activities as needed.
• Collaborate with the Technical Training Manager and internal subject matter experts in support of identifying training and Operator Qualification needs of the Gas Distribution clients.
• Work with process owners and process improvement managers across the utility to establish process efficiency.
• Build strong internal and external relationship with all clients to stay abreast of operational changes relevant to effective training programs.
• Apply training and development processes of analysis, design, development, evaluation, and alternative delivery methods, including eLearning and virtual instruction applications
• Conduct hands-on training safely across multiple topics using appropriate reference manuals and other resources to instruct employees in pipeline welding.
• Provide client service, be a team player, and excel in communicating both verbally and in writing.
• Use of tools, resources, and operation of appropriate welding equipment i.e., safety, layout prints, test equipment and weld inspection.

Job Specific Qualifications

Required :

• High school graduate or GED equivalent.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in natural gas distribution pipeline welding, methods of construction, welding procedures, gas pipeline maintenance, troubleshooting and safe work practices.
• Must be available in case of a storm emergency or on-call assignment as business needs require.
• Basic skills in computer skills, including but not limited to Microsoft Office, Learning Management System, etc.
• High attention to detail and excellent organizational skills are also important for effective collaboration with fellow instructors and the entire Technical Training team.
• Strong oral and written communication skills; capable of making effective classroom presentations.
• Must foster an inclusive work environment and respects all aspects of diversity. Successful candidate must demonstrate and value differences in others’ strengths, perspectives, approaches, and personal choices.
• Must have a valid U.S. driver’s license.

Desired :

• Experience in alternative training delivery methods, including automated, computer-based or virtual / augmented reality applications.
• Process Improvement skills / LSS Green Belt.
