The Wolpert Lab in the Zuckerman Institute studies how humans learn and execute skilled movements. The research involves experimental studies on human volunteers using a variety of techniques, including haptic-feedback robotic interfaces, virtual reality, motion capture and web-based online experiments. The lab is seeking a flexible and highly motivated individual for the role of Staff Associate II in the study of human movement. The successful applicant will be responsible for supporting research in the lab and have the opportunity to develop and exercise a wide variety of scientific and technical skills. These include the maintenance of the lab environment and existing equipment, as well as assisting in the development and construction of new equipment. In addition, the appointee will participate in research by recruiting and running experimental participants, analyzing data, developing new experimental paradigms, and attending lab meetings. The post would suit someone who has a range of interests and skills, including experience in some of the following: behavioral experiments with humans, computer programming, data acquisition and analysis, electro-mechanical systems. Responsibilities Assist with electro-mechanical design, construction and fault-finding. Coding and testing of experimental paradigms (Matlab, C, JavaScript). Recruiting and running human subjects in behavioral experiments. Analyzing data (Matlab or Python). General lab management, maintenance of the lab environment and equipment, ordering lab supplies, organizing lab meetings, and assisting with safety and training. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in a science or engineering field, and at least two years of related experience. Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills. Experience with the Windows / PC environment. Ability to work independently and with others. An enthusiasm for the lab's scientific mission. Preferred Qualifications Proficiency in programming (familiarity with Matlab, Python, JavaScript or C, training can be provided). Experience with electro-mechanical systems (maintenance, fault-finding, design and construction). The ability to work with accuracy and attention to detail. Flexibility and willingness to learn new techniques in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment. Strong organizational skills including excellent note keeping.
