Job Description - Automation & Controls Engineer

You want to play an impactful role in shaping the US push to zero emission transportation solutions. Proactively interact with other disciplines and contractors to systematically resolve problems, applying informed engineering judgment to drive integrated, pragmatic solutions focused on risk management, production efficiency, defect elimination & standardization. Ensure Engineering activities appropriately apply corporate standards and processes such as Fit for Service (F4S). Ensure quality and consistent application of engineering processes and workflows. Responsibilities
Support Operations in their solution of day-to-day controls and automation issues.
Interface with equipment suppliers to seamlessly integrate suppliers’ control system with Nikola infrastructure, coordinate with suppliers on software and hardware updates and changes via MoC process, identify solutions to issues in controls, automation, networking and communication systems and proactively work with suppliers to resolve them.
Custodian and ownership of controls and automation processes and workflows e.g. instrument and control system simulator, MoC process, automation system digital security processes.
Provide controls and automation support for Projects and turnaround activities including input into design reviews and HAZOPs.
Identify improvements to process control across assets e.g. Advanced Control deployment
Review and approve controls and automation MoC content
Custodian of controls and automation engineering-focused contracts
Drive controls and automation standardization across all assets
Equipment and systems within the scope of the Telecoms discipline include:
Telephone Systems in Production Areas including Hotline and Emergency Systems
Communication Systems including PAGA, Paging, Satellite phones, Radios
Communications Infrastructure in Production Areas including Microwave, Satellite, Fibre and Copper cabling
Security Systems including CCTV, Intrusion detection, access control
Networks including WAN, LAN, aPCN, uLAN, PIN, Firewalls
Remote access to PCN and condition-based monitoring systems
Other systems including Meteorological System, Voice Recorder
Qualifications Qualifications and experience
BS degree in electrical engineering, specializing in controls and automation, or equivalent qualification.
Minimum 2 years’ experience in control system design, maintenance, troubleshooting in an industrial environment.
Proficient in control system software programming and familiar with control system hardware.
Willing to travel and work in the field setting to support Nikola assets.
Candidates must have current U.S. work authorization or be TN eligible from Mexico or Canada. This position is not eligible for CPT or OPT.
