Proof Bread is looking for several customer service representatives to join our small, efficient team. We are growing to three locations within 2023. Our headquarters is located in Downtown Mesa at 125 W Main St, Mesa, AZ 85201. Our second location in the Phoenix "Sheaborhood" is located at 3110 E Shea Blvd, Phoenix, AZ 85028. Lastly, we are elated to be a part of the ECO-Phoenix family in Downtown Phoenix located at 301 W Roosevelt St, Suite 1, Phoenix, AZ 85003.

We are a small scale artisan bakery that specializes in naturally leavened breads and pastries using locally or regionally sourced flour. Our mission is to revive our local supply chains, grain economies, and educate our community about real food. We are family owned and operated. We are a farmer's market based business who started in our home garage, recently transitioned to a downtown Mesa retail location, and now expanding to Phoenix to incorporate a warehouse and second retail location.

Role Description

This is an entry-level position on the Proof Customer Service and Sales team.

A customer service representative offers friendly service and tailors our customers' experience during their visit to our retail location. This representative highlights our sourdough bread and pastry while maintaining a clean and welcoming environment.

Our ideal candidate is self-driven, punctual and reliable.

Duties include, but not limited to:

Customer Service: 

  • Greet customers in a friendly and proactive manner
  • Have a strong understanding of all PROOF products and corresponding talking points to help encourage sales and repeat business
  • Set up and maintain aesthetically pleasing bread and pastry display
  • Must be comfortable gently guiding customers through ordering processes
  • Must be comfortable promoting other ways to find Proof bread (i.e. markets & other locations)

Procedures and Maintenance: 

  • Responsible for opening and pre-opening procedures including but not limited to: brewing coffee, preparing the lobby, preparing service stations, stocking paper supplies, preparing merch displays, preparing bread and pastry display, opening POS and cash register, opening customer doors, etc
  • Responsible for maintaining an appealing display and clean customer areas throughout operation
  • Responsible for routinely cleaning customer bathrooms
  • Responsible for closing procedures including but not limited to: shutting down POS and closing register, counting register, proper leftover product management, locking customer doors, proper cleanup in accordance with food handling requirements (surfaces, floors, bathrooms)
  • Must identify and report issues proactively to Lead

Prerequisites and Requirements: 

  • Produce a valid ID and food handling certification
  • Must show 2 years of verifiable customer service and cash handling experience
  • Demonstrate proficiency computing basic mathematic calculations
  • Must be good multi-tasker/time manager
  • Ability to work quickly and diligently in a friendly manner with attention to detail
  • Demonstrate effective teamwork and communication skills
  • Work weekends and stay until all tasks are completed
  • Ability to maintain a friendly attitude even when dealing with disgruntled customers
  • Must be responsible and have proven ability to maintain scheduling commitments
  • Must be able to stand for the entirety of the shift, up to 8 hours
  • Food service background a plus

Position Specifics :

  • Full-time or part-time positions available
  • Position hours range from 6AM open to 8PM close with multiple 6-hour shift options within that window
  • Compensation begins at $14 hourly, with additional tip-share

  • Versatility - Willingness to tackle any task including excellent customer service and cleanliness
