Job Summary

The Estimator will be responsible for reviewing and analyzing project plans and specifications for special requirements and conditions to produce a complete estimate for assigned projects of small to medium size and intermediate complexity.

Main Responsibilities

  • Studies the documents of the tender or of the customer's request

  • Analyzes the project : technical validity, proposal of variants, assessment of risks and opportunities

  • Controls the plans and ensures the taking of measurements by learning about the land and its characteristics, calculates the cubic volumes and the measurements, etc.

  • Consults suppliers and sub-contractors in search of the best services and prices

  • Assesses the project : prepares price sub-details and sets the sales price in collaboration with his/her hierarchy

  • Prepares and drafts the technical file of the response to a call for tenders (technical brief, schedule, etc.)

  • Follows the tender documentation until its awarding : sales relationship with the customer and/or his/her representatives

  • Organizes the submission of the offer to the customer in compliance with the deadlines and the imposed formalism

  • Coordinates relations with support services (technical, legal, insurance, etc.) and Operations upstream, during and downstream of the job to capitalize on feedback.

  • Possibly supervises price study technicians, heads of technical research

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Construction Technology or equivalent combination of technical training and/or related experience
  • Clean Driving Record
  • Ability to comprehend project plans and specifications
  • Ability to multitask efficiently and optimally
  • Ability to work independently and as a team
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet short deadlines and process projects quickly
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Excellent digital literacy combined with previous knowledge of Heavy Bid, Heavy Job, and JDE Edwards
  • Excellent math skills with the ability to calculate and analyze data
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Experience with JDE Enterprise, Heavy Bid/Heaving Job estimating software
  • Must have the ability to work well with all levels of the organization
  • Must possess an approach for making continuous improvements of department processes
  • Previous knowledge of construction labor and equipment practices and production
  • Previous knowledge of engineering and space relationship
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access
  • Strong tendency to take initiative

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, and move around construction sites for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift and carry materials and equipment weighing up to a certain amount (e.g. 50 lbs).
  • Ability to climb ladders, stairs, and scaffolding as needed.
  • Ability to work in outdoor environments and in varying weather conditions.
  • Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity for measuring and assessing project sites.
  • Ability to operate and use basic construction tools and equipment.
  • Ability to visually inspect and assess construction projects for accuracy and quality.
  • Physical stamina and endurance to work long hours and meet project deadlines.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing project requirements and schedules
