About Us:   The   Coast Guard House Restaurant , established in 1945, is a historic and iconic dining destination located in   Narragansett, Rhode Island . Our restaurant occupies a unique space originally built as a life-saving station for the U.S. Life Saving Service. With breathtaking ocean views and a rich maritime history, we pride ourselves on delivering exceptional culinary experiences to our guests.

Position Overview:   We are seeking a passionate and talented   Sous Chef   to join our culinary team. As a Sous Chef at Coast Guard House, you will play a crucial role in maintaining our high standards of food quality, creativity, and presentation. You’ll work closely with our Executive Chef to lead a dynamic kitchen team and ensure seamless operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Executive Chef to design and execute seasonal menus that showcase local and sustainable ingredients.
  • Oversee daily kitchen operations, including food preparation, cooking, and plating.
  • Train, mentor, and inspire kitchen staff, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
    • Maintain high standards of cleanliness, safety, and sanitation in the kitchen.
    • Assist in inventory management, ordering supplies, and controlling food costs.
    • Ensure consistency in taste, portion sizes, and presentation.
    • Adapt to changing business needs, including special events, private parties, and catering.

    Qualifications:

    • Culinary Expertise : A minimum of  5 years of experience   in a full-service restaurant kitchen, with a strong background in culinary techniques and flavor profiles.
    • Leadership Skills : Ability to lead and motivate a team during busy shifts, maintaining composure under pressure.
    • Creativity : Passion for creating innovative dishes while respecting classic culinary traditions.
    • Adaptability : Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
    • Trend Awareness : Stay informed about industry trends, new ingredients, and techniques.
    • Communication : Effective communication skills to collaborate with kitchen staff, servers, and management.
