The Manager, Analytics Engineering is responsible for the work product of the Analytics Engineering agile team, leading the team in the architecture, build, and implementation of technical solutions helping to ensure that work product for the entire team is of high quality, adheres to the defined architecture best practices of the company, and that the deliverables meet the customer and business objectives of a given project. The Manager will help to break the proposed implementation into blocks of work that can be executed with the other engineers on the agile team and also execute work with speed and quality and support the team to timely resolve complex issues to help maximize the productivity of the team. The Manager will set an example, act as a subject-matter expert, and provide guidance and mentoring to other engineers to ensure the success and high productivity of the team and to continuously enhance the team’s development processes. Finally, the Manager, Analytics Engineeringwill identify and provide solutions for issues that stand in the way of continuous productivity. The Manager will oversee a team of one or more Analytics Engineers and reports to the Director, Data & Stores Engineering.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Accountable for the quality of work product of engineers on an agile development team and the adherence of their work product to the architectural design of the project and engineering practices of the company.
  • Partner with other David’s Bridal teams, external technology providers, and IT infrastructure/operations teams to ensure the delivery of their work product meets requirements. Cross boundaries proactively and operate collaboratively.
  • Drive for repeatability and automation of manual processes for maximum efficiency and resource utilization, advocate for addressing tech debt.
  • Contribute valuable work product as an engineer on an agile development team, solving complex and highly technical problems. Independently research new technologies and prepare business and technical justifications for their inclusion. Develop/design integrated solutions within a broad technical context.
  • Monitor the work product of all software engineers on the agile team to ensure quality, velocity, and adherence to architectural designs and the software engineering standards of the company through code reviews, unit testing, and the peer review process. This will include documentation of design, development, integration/test and deployment activities, as well reviewing the documentation of others.
  • Resolve technical issues on a timely basis to ensure the continuous productivity of all engineers on the team, lead technical design spikes to investigate technically complex issues, identify optimal solutions, and then translate these solutions into epics and user stories for the team, make sure those stories align with the overall technical strategy ensuring that the progress of the team is on track.
  • Recruit and lead a team of high performing engineers, support their professional development, ensuring they contribute at a level commensurate with their position, helping them to resolve work issues, and taking corrective actions when required.

Education:

  • BA/BS/Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or other related degree. 

 

Required Experience, Skills and Abilities:

  • 8-10 years in development and design of data pipelines for large, heterogeneous datasets.
  • Good understanding of ELT design patterns.
  • Big Data Technologies and Concepts.
  • RDBMS and NoSql Databases including data cloud solutions such as Snowflake.
  • Expert knowledge of SQL.
  • Development experience in AWS (Python, Terraform, Lambda, SQS/SNS, EC2, Athena).
  • Source Code Control Practices.
  • RESTful API concepts.
  • Expert understanding of agile development practices.
  • Expert understanding of modern software engineering practices, design patterns and object-oriented technologies.
  • Experience with Git, bitbucket, continuous integration and build tools (i.e. Ansible, Docker, Quickbuild, Jenkins)
  • Project and code management in Jira.
  • Experience working in a variety of development methodologies including Agile / SCRUM or other iterative methodologies

Preferred experience but not required:

  • Experience building data transformations using dbt (Data Build Tool). 
  • Data discovery and BI software tools (e.g. Microstrategy, PowerBI).
  • Microsoft Dynamics CRM.

  • Ability to mentor and review the work of other software engineers.
  • Ability to lead an agile team with both internal and 3rd party resources (onshore / offshore).
