  Job Overview

 

Responsible for managing the day-to-day technical and clinical activities of the Automation Laboratory in accordance with the scope of services provided. Ensures that the activities of the Automation Laboratory comply with all accrediting, licensing, and regulatory agencies, including, but not limited to CAP, DNV, and NJSDH. In coordination with the Medical Director or designee, develops, updates, and maintains technical policies and procedures that reflect current and appropriate laboratory practices and cost effective operation. Develops and oversees training, education, and competency programs within the Automation Laboratory to ensure that personnel maintain current knowledge in clinical theory, techniques, procedures, and equipment operation. Develops, implements, and monitors quality control and performance improvement programs and activities to ensure the highest quality testing standards and accuracy of results for our patients. Provides expertise to Medical Center physicians, clinicians, and nursing staff at both Paterson and Wayne, as needed. Provides administrative and technical assistance to Laboratory Section Managers, Clinicians, and Nursing in regards to intra and inter-departmental laboratory activities including, but not limited to Specimen Collection, Transport, Storage, Aliqoting and the like. In conjunction with the Point-of-Care Sr. Technologist and the Medical Director, provides technical assistance to the St. Joseph's Wayne Laboratory and to several off-site laboratories as needed. Work requires the knowledge of theories, principles, and concepts normally acquired through completion of a Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or closely related field from an accredited institution and three to five years of previous work related experience. Requires Certification ASCP, AMT, or HEW as a Medical Technologist. Additional ASCP Specialty Certification preferred (SBB, SH, SC, SM), but not required. Requires a minimum of four years of post-graduate experience in the areas of clinical chemistry, hematology, homeostasis, and body fluids. Requires demonstration of leadership skills and team building skills. Requires the analytic ability necessary to resolve problems requiring a professional level of knowledge in clinical chemistry, hematology, homeostasis, body fluids, instrumentation, complex clinical solutions, financial data processing, marketing, and human resources. Requires the ability to use and update Laboratory Computer System databases, relating to Automation Laboratory functions.
