Job Description - Mechanic Truck Service Technician

We’re currently on the lookout for a Service Technician who will perform a critical role in developing and executing service, repairs and troubleshooting on Nikola Motor’s Class 8 Battery Electric Vehicle, and Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle, as we bring our disruptive technology to market. Responsibilities Job Summary: Advanced in troubleshooting; diagnose provide remedy solutions for repair of the Nikola product line electrical systems and components. Must be able to identify and evaluate root cause malfunctions using electronic tools, schematics and other trouble shooting methods. Be able to demonstrate proper communication methods to the team and effectively explain truck conditions, truck status and recommendations, to clients, associates, and management. This position is to support the Nikola product line at multiple locations whether at Los Angeles, HQ or imbedded into a client’s preferred location. The position will work within a team environment of technicians, master technicians and engineers to provide excellence in service to our clients. The candidate should preferably have a minimum of 3 years in the trucking industry or related field. As well have and understanding of the chassis, braking, electrical and HVAC systems. Essential Functions:
Work safely at all times-Adhere to all applicable safety policies. Comply with all company policies, procedures, and standards.
Troubleshoot and diagnose equipment malfunctions and have a solution to repair them.
Maintain good customer relations and support for corporate marketing objectives.
Fill out detailed reports and keep records on services that have been performed.
Maintain company equipment - keep in good clean orderly condition. Help train newer employees how to use equipment.
Order parts needed for repairs if needed; Plan and control Nikola/Customer costs in support of the Nikola product line, providing accurate cost-effective solutions
Additional Responsibilities:
Learn and use Nikola products, procedures, and systems.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Provide on-the-job training to technicians and helpers as assigned. Consistently mentor the team when needed.
Work overtime as needed.
Travel to client locations as needed without much notice.
Make warranty recommendations.
Communicate with proper individuals to clarify instructions or discuss scope or progress of job.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Excellent communication verbally and in writing, information, instructions, and explanations to associates, customers and management regarding diagnostic skills, problems, recommendations, and repair processes.
Proficient with current software and computer system platforms; as well as knowledge in operating scanning/diagnostic tools via CAN, LIN, J1939 and OBD.
Knowledge and skills to operate and understand diagnostic equipment including computerized instrumentation.
Ability to work independently without much supervision; effectively manage time
Knowledge of Nikola components and systems as a level one technician for a minimum of three years, or related field showing positive results.
Qualifications Education and Experience:
Proof of high school diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
Current driver's license.
Minimum of 3 years as a service tech level 1 or in related trucking experience.
Must be able to communicate (speak, read, comprehend, write) in English.
Technical schooling background is preferred.
Experience with service tools such as Metra hit meter, Vector box and other vehicle-based diagnosing tools is required.
