Responsible for management and setup of equipment for introductory physics lectures and labs. Lecture courses include PHY 10, 11, 13 and 21. Lab courses include Mechanics (PHY 12), E&M and Optics (PHY 22), Astronomy (ASTR 08), and Advanced Labs (PHY 220 and 221). Coordinate with the lab manager and other lab technicians. Instruct graduate-student TA’s who teach undergraduate labs. Assist with faculty-research projects to design, purchase, and maintain instrumentation and equipment. Maintain an Electronics Stockroom. This position is a Grade: 8 - 37.5 with an approximate salary range of $43,290-$51,960 and is subject to change based on experience, skills and qualifications

1. Undergraduate lab technician
•Plan and execute physics lab program in collaboration with Lab Manager and other technician
•Independently set-up and dismantle physics lab experiments for PHY 12, and 22 lab courses (serving approximately 500 students/semester).
•Maintain lab experiments in good condition
2. Instruct teaching assistants and help to ensure safety in undergraduate laboratories
•Instruct all teaching assistants on the performance of undergraduate lab experiments
•Solve problems that occur with teaching lab equipment while labs are in session.
•Instruct teaching assistants on the safe operation of teaching laboratory equipment.
3. Support the teaching of undergraduate physics lecture courses
•Work with faculty to design, purchase, build, and maintain undergraduate lecture demonstrations
•Assist with the physics lecture room by setting up demonstrations and cleaning blackboards
•Collect homework and distribute to teaching assistants
4. Inventory control of electronic equipment and parts stockroom.
•Maintain stock of approximately 5000 electronic parts.
•Purchase equipment required for all undergraduate labs.
•Help design and build circuits for faculty research labs
5. Building and student-office maintenance
•Help organize and maintain office space for graduate-student TA’s and RA’s in physics.
•Notify and consult with Lehigh facilities staff on electrical, lighting, plumbing, recycling (computers, batteries, and chemicals), audio/visual, safety, and heating air-conditioning issues.
•Help upgrade use of lab and office spaces to suit department needs.
6. Computer technology in the laboratory
•Interact with Library and Technology Services (LTS) to research, purchase, and install computers and software used in teaching labs and department offices.
•Research, purchase, and install computer interfaces for lab experiments, computer peripherals (modems, lab hubs, A/D converters, printers, and scanners …)
•Interact with LTS to provide computer networking for undergraduate labs.

Variable shifts/schedule
The duties of the position do not allow for a remote work option; the employee in this position will be required to work on campus where they can be fully accessible to the Lehigh community
Qualifications
•Associates, Vocational or Technical Degree in Electronics, Computer Maintenance (software and hardware)
•Machine Shop experience
•Three to five years of related work experience
Successful completion of standard background checks including but not limited to: social security verification, education verification, national criminal background checks, motor vehicle checks, PATCH, FBI fingerprinting, Child Abuse Clearance and credit history based upon the requirements of the position
