Established in 1956 and served by the Sisters of Divine Providence until the mid 1990s, St. Isaac Jogues Catholic School in St. Clair Shores, MI, has been under the leadership of the Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist since 2014.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, committed part-time school counselor for 2024-25.

PURPOSE: To align with the school’s vision to support all students’ spiritual and academic achievement as they prepare to be disciples in the 21st century.

DUTIES: Areas of responsibility include: designing, developing, implementing and evaluating a comprehensive school counseling program that addresses students’ academic, spiritual, and social/emotional development. This involves both direct and indirect student services.

Direct Student Services

• School counseling in core curriculum
  • Instruction – direct instruction, team teaching, developing learning activities.
  • Group activities – planned activities outside the classroom promoting academic, spiritual or social/emotional development.

• Individual student planning
  • Appraisal – assist students in evaluating interests, abilities, skills, and achievement.
  • Advisement – assist students in goal setting based on academic, spiritual and social/emotional data.

• Responsive services
  • Counseling – in individual or small-group settings to provide planned, short-term and goal-focused counseling.
  • Resources - assist with student mental health needs and assist students and families seeking out resources.
  • Crisis response – provide support and assistance to students and families as they navigate crisis and emergency situations.
  • Development and implementation of a virtue-based positive behavior intervention system.
  • Health and wellness programming on various topics as the need arises, including: maturation, substance abuse, depression and anxiety, cyber-safety, etc.

Indirect Student Services

• Consultation – sharing strategies and supporting student achievement with parents, teachers, other educators and community organizations.

• Collaboration – work with educators, parents and the community to support student achievement.

• Referrals – support for students and families to school or community resources for additional assistance and information.
