Position Summary:

The Payroll Specialist, at the direction of the Senior Payroll Manager, will support the daily maintenance and accurate bi-weekly processing of all payroll transactions utilizing UKG payroll system. The Payroll Specialist is also tasked with solving complex problems, being knowledgeable about all aspects of payroll, and performing reconciliations to ensure accurate and compliant payroll processing in accordance with union contract, Federal, State, and Local regulations and applicable tax laws. The ideal candidate is a subject matter expert for the payroll function of HRIS systems.

This role requires regular, on-site attendance of at least two days a week to promote the overall work culture and environment of teamwork and personal interaction, and to efficiently achieve the organization's mission of ending discrimination against LGBTQ+ people and realize a world that achieves fundamental fairness and equality for all.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Accurately process and review biweekly payrolls in a timely and confidential manner per published payroll schedule.
  • Check and audit time and attendance records and adjustments in timekeeping system for compliance with established guidelines, and process the interface with the payroll system.
  • Deliver best-in-class customer service and effectively communicate to employees at all times to ensure understanding of payroll processing, deadlines and expectations.
  • Process all employees' deductions, taxes and direct deposit information and maintain employee payroll files.
  • Administer all applicable voluntary and involuntary deductions such as taxes, health, flexible spending and dependent care accounts, voluntary life insurance, employee advances, retirement plans, transportation benefits.
  • Reconcile all health, supplemental benefits, and 401K and garnishment deductions to the general ledger and vendor.
  • Work closely with internal Human Resource (HR) personnel related to yearly health insurance enrollments, monitor employee's new enrollments in UKG and ensuring seamless communication with HR.
  • Assist with clearing payroll ACH Return/Direct Deposit Rejections.
  • Prepare documentation and provide schedules for annual financial and 401(k) audit.
  • Pursue continuing professional development.
  • Maintain regular and open communications with Sr. Payroll Manager of any urgent needs and concerns of employees.
  • Performs other duties as needed or assigned by the Sr. Payroll Manager.
  • Overtime at peak times is required.

Position Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience, with 2 years relevant work in payroll
  • Experience with payroll functions including preparation, balancing, time keeping, internal control, and payroll taxes.?
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.?
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.?
  • Knowledge of wage and hour laws (federal, local and state).
  • Strong professional ethics and sensitivity in dealing with confidentiality issues.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite, including Excel, required.
  • Proficient with UKG Ready HRIS or related software.?
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Self-manage time in order to meet weekly and monthly deadlines, often under pressure.
  • Must be able to work independently and be team-oriented and willing to assist fellow finance staff, as needed.
  • Non-profit accounting experience is preferred
  • CPP or FPC certification is a plus
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite, including Excel, required.
  • Accounting software experience is required. Microsoft Dynamics NAV or similar is preferred.
  • Personal interest in and commitment to LGBTQ+ rights required.???
  • Overtime at times is required.
