SUMMARY Staff veterinarians are the foundation of the Humane Society of Huron Valley’s clinic team. We seek compassionate, highly skilled professionals who are excited about our mission to maximize the care we provide to the animals in our community. They also need to be able to provide veterinary care in fast-paced, mission-driven environment with the goal of helping those in need, including pets or people facing financial challenges. They must be able to work in partnership with multiple teams across the greater shelter, to help alleviate suffering, enhance the dignity of our patrons, and collaborate with our veterinary community. To some degree, the opportunity exists to customize to the experience and interests of the applying veterinarian. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Must be licensed in the State of Michigan and have a Federal Drug license. Requires the ability to multi-task and work in a diverse environment. Good oral and written communication skills are necessary. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Display outstanding customer service to all clients, regardless of ability to pay, while ensuring efficient and cost-effective use of all HSHV resources according to SOPs in place for special programs through the veterinary clinic. 2. Perform duties as outlined, which may include outpatient appointments as scheduled, surgery, dentistry, house calls, or other duties. 3. Perform high quality veterinary medicine while contributing to budgetary goals and ensuring appointment times are met. 4. Work cooperatively with coworkers and volunteers to ensure a smooth flow of clinic operations, while providing leadership to Veterinary Assistants and Receptionist. 5. Maintain compliance with federal, state and county regulatory agencies as it relates to professional medical and animal sheltering services. 6. Maintain working knowledge of current advances in the veterinary field and pursue growth in best practices, bringing any suggestions to management for policy changes due to advances or conflicts with current processes. 7. Perform or coordinate any necessary treatments, surgery, and health evaluations for disposition of animals when deemed necessary for shelter animals. 8. Treat or otherwise assist in the disposition of wildlife received by HSHV as needed. 9. Assist with cruelty investigations, including court appearances as necessary. 10. Assist in the educational growth of co-workers and interns. 11. Perform all other duties expected of a veterinarian and as assigned. 12. Report any concerns or department needs to your supervisor. 13. Be available for emergency weekend phone consultations as scheduled. PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing this job, you will have extended periods of standing and lifting. You must be able to lift up to 40 pounds regularly in order to transport animals, equipment and more. Use of your hands and digits is required to operate equipment, and normal hearing and talking is required to communicate with surgeons and others encountered during the course of work. You will be exposed to the surgery and euthanasia setting as well as the occasional kennel/shelter setting. You will be exposed to disinfectant solutions while cleaning. You will be consistently exposed to animals and animal allergens. You may also be subject to potential danger including parasites and infectious diseases, animal bites and scratches. MENTAL DEMANDS While performing this job, you will be regularly required to use written and oral communication skills; observe and interpret situations; analyze and solve problems; learn and apply new information and skills; perform repetitive work on multiple, concurrent tasks; fulfill intensive deadlines; and interact with staff, the public, volunteers and others encountered in the course of work. You may be continually interrupted while you work. You will be exposed to others’ pain and suffering, and must be able to handle occasional volatile situations.
