Job Description - VP of Payroll

Primary Location: Tucson, AZ - Corporate branch preferred; candidates in the Phoenix area will also be considered.

Evol ving as a VP of Payroll by having...

  • High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Human Resource Management or related field is preferred.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of management or supervisory experience in Payroll (5 to 7 years' experience for VP candidates).
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in related fields.
  • Professional certification (CPP - Certified Payroll Professional) is preferred.
  • An equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered.

  • Manages and guarantees semi-monthly disbursement of multi-state payroll, including garnishments, benefits, and taxes to all employees consistent with federal and state wage and hour laws.
  • Ensures the processing of new hires, temporary workers, transfers, promotions, and terminations is accurate and timely.
  • Oversees and participates in the on-boarding/new hire process.
  • Reviews and analyzes current payroll, benefits, and tax procedures to recommend and implement changes leading to best-practice operations.
  • Audits W-4s, payroll balance sheets accounts, YTD earnings, etc.
  • Manages regular preparation of relevant management reports, including weekly, monthly, quarterly, and year-end reports (gross payroll, hours worked, vacation accrual, tax deductions, benefit deductions, etc.).
  • Updates payroll records by reviewing and approving changes in exemptions, insurance coverage, savings deductions, and job titles, and department transfers.
  • Prepares reports by compiling summaries of earnings, taxes, deductions, leave, disability, and nontaxable wages.
  • Provides payroll information by answering questions and requests.
  • Maintains payroll guidelines by writing and updating policies and procedures.
  • Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions.
  • Contributes to quarterly rolling budget process, provides payroll related analytics, prepares monthly and quarterly reports to support controller with reports presented to executive team.
  • Assists with various payroll related audit requests, GAAP audit and government agencies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
