Adjunct Instructor/Lecturer Foreign Language Teacher Education Program University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign The Foreign Language Teacher Education (FLTE) program at the University of Illinois is seeking up to two Adjunct Instructors (Master's or ABD) / Adjunct Lecturers (Phd) for Fall 2024 to work with and support the development of FLTE Teacher Candidates as they prepare for their student teaching practicum experience. The positions begin August 16, 2024. Duties & Responsibilities To teach World Language instructional methods to FLTE pre-service teacher candidates in preparation for submission of state mandated edTPA; Providing instruction in & development of academic & professional education writing skills for edTPA; Teaching/demonstrating application of educational & SLA theory to K-12 classroom practice; Providing instruction in the following areas:
- educational goals & learning objectives,
- construction of IPES standards-based lesson plans,
- alignment of instruction & instructional plan with ACTFL World Readiness Standards,
- assessment & evaluation,
- classroom organization & management, & teaching with technology;
Providing instruction in the design, development, & delivery of a multi-segment instructional unit plans;
Exposing candidates to educational research undergirding best practices in K-12 teaching, WL Education, & SLA theory; Providing instruction in how to teach culture, reading/listening and speaking/writing.
On-going duties include teaching in person, lesson planning, grading tests/quizzes, oversight of candidates' lesson plan & unit plan development, selecting course readings, evaluating lesson plans/unit plans, evaluating technology teaching components, reviewing & making recommendations for the preparation of edTPA submissions, coordinating guest speakers from local school districts.
QUALIFICATIONS Required:
- Master's or PhD degree in French, German, Latin, or Spanish, Teacher Education, Curriculum & Instruction, or related field.
- 3 years of experience teaching middle school or high school
- 5 years of experience teaching a world/foreign language
- Experience incorporating the ACTFL World Readiness Standards in teaching
- Experience incorporating DEI and Culturally Responsive Teaching practices in teaching
- Evidence of effective World Language teaching
Preferred:
- Holds teaching license in IL or other state with endorsement in World Language/Foreign Language
- Experience as a Cooperating Teacher or Student Teaching Supervisor in a World Language teacher licensure program
- Familiarity with edTPA structure and tasks
- Prior teaching experience in Higher Education
SALARY AND APPOINTMENT INFORMATION These are part-time 25% appointment to one course during one of the following:
Fall semester: August 16, 2024 - December 15, 2024
Part Fall/ Part Spring: August 16, 2024 - May 15, 2025
Positions are held in-person on UIUC campus and salary is commensurate with experience. Annual renewal of these positions is possible and contingent on availability of funding, sufficient enrollments, and positive performance reviews.
