Job Description - Casework Assistant

This employee will provide orientation, ongoing core services and case management services to our clients in a timely, appropriate, and effective manner ensuring their early employment and self-sufficiency. Ukrainian language is required.

Case Aide: Essential Duties

  • Assists the resettlement supervisor in all duties related to the successful resettlement of refugees and Matching Grant clients by ensuring timely delivery of services. These include possible evening airport pickups for newly arriving refugees, transportation to appointments, housing set ups, and home visits, among others.
  • Provides interpretation and translation services to refugee clients, including intakes and orientation.
  • Connects clients to in-house support and makes referrals to external service providers as necessary to assist clients in achieving self-sufficiency.
  • Assists the resettlement supervisor in preparing and documenting monthly maintenance assistance requests and distributes disbursements.
  • Assists the resettlement supervisor in any duties he/she deems necessary.

Case Management

  • Documents all services in clients’ case notes.
  • Records all financial transactions in clients’ financial tracking logs.
  • Assists the resettlement supervisor in any duties they deem necessary.

Associate Case Manager

  • Meets new clients and provides orientation to Jersey City programs and specific orientation to the programs and services of their team.
  • Assists with remote program orientation and information to newly arrived clients, including rights and responsibilities, federal and local services and immigrant services.
  • Assists with on-going case management and services to clients according to the terms of related Cooperative Agreements, grant requirements or NJOR agreements.
  • Refers clients for Health screenings and appointments, as necessary.
  • Assists clients in obtaining Social Security cards and other necessary documentation, as needed.
  • Assists with referrals to social service providers and government agencies in coordination with other staff.
  • Coordinate with other CWS staff for medical referrals, English classes and school registration, social service providers and government agencies.
  • Assists with transportation to client appointments to fulfill service requirements, as needed.
  • Assist males between the ages of 18-24 to file for selective service, as needed
  • Collaborate with employment staff to provide employment orientation, job counseling, job placement and training for job placement when needed.
  • Assists with/arranges language interpretation as needed.
  • Requests payments for direct client assistance & emergency assistance as needed.
  • Documents all service delivery activities as case notes in the client’s case file.
  • Write reports for clients according to RSS or other guidelines.
  • Maintains an orderly case file for each case and fulfills programmatic documentation requirements.
  • Assists the Case Managers and Program Managers in preparation of required reports.
  • Performs other related duties as requested.

Common Duties :

  • Advocates on behalf of refugees, and refugee-serving voluntary agencies.
  • Keeps informed about refugee and immigrant issues, and available services to refugees, using current information to better identify and serve refugee clients.
  • Represents the program relevant to the responsibilities of the position.
  • Undertakes other duties as assigned.
  • Performs all duties in culturally appropriate manner.
  • Works varied hours, including occasional night and weekend work.

Education: Associate's degree in human services or a related field preferred.

 

Experience: A background in case management or human service delivery is desirable.

 

Skills :

  • Language fluency in written and spoken English is required.
  • Proficiency in Ukrainian is required. Russian language is an asset.
  • Must have superior written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be computer literate with proficiency in MS Office.
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment required.
  • Close attention to detail is essential.

 

  • The successful candidate must be computer literate, with proficiency in MS Office and internet applications.
  • A valid driver’s license is also required, along with the ability to move furniture and donations. The candidate will be expected to transport clients in their own vehicle (mileage will be reimbursed) and must have a reliable working car for this purpose.
  • The successful candidate must pass a background check.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. of weight. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential job functions.
  • This position is primarily in the office and community.
  • During busy times other duties may be assigned.
