Responsibilities

REPORTS TO: 

Director of Nursing

SUMMARY STATEMENT & PURPOSE

Under the direction of the Director of Nursing, the Clinical Teacher provides nursing professional development and educational programming for all clinical staff. The Clinical Teacher collaborates with management and staff across ambulatory departments to assess, plan, develop, implement, facilitate, evaluate and revise educational programming for all levels of nursing personnel and non-nursing personnel as indicated or requested.

All employees are expected to be pleasant, respectful, and courteous in all interactions with patients, families, staff, and visitors of the Hospital, as well as being a positive representative of INBH at all times.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduate from an accredited Bachelor’s degree program of nursing
  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse in Washington State
  • Minimum of five (5) years of nursing experience, with at least one (1) year of psychiatric experience
  • Successful completion of Handle with Care, Verbal De-escalation, AMSR, and BLS, provided by INBH

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in Education or Nursing
  • Experience with infection control and or employee health
  • At least one (1) year experience in clinical competency testing, orientation, training, and policy development highly desirable
  • At least two (2) years’ experience in quality improvement principles

Qualifications

SPECIFIC PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

All functions are essential functions unless otherwise noted.  The job functions of this position are not limited to the duties listed below.

  1. Assess, plans, develops, implements, and evaluates comprehensive education programs to meet the orientation and ongoing competency needs and professional development needs of clinical staff
  2. Develops curricula that is reflective of evidence-based practice and uses the appropriate methods of teaching to accommodate learning styles and the learning environment
  3. Supports the implementation of management decisions that affect clinical practice. Plans educational programming for new or changing programs of care 
  4. Assists in development of clinical policies, procedures, and delegation protocols as requested
  1. Provides guidance, knowledge and acts as a clinical resource for clinical staff
  1. Participates in strategic planning, ad hoc projects and educational activities as assigned to clinical departments
  2. Communicate and educate all clinical staff of policy and procedure changes and updates
  3. Develop, implement, and oversee annual competency for clinical staff (RN, LPN, MHT, Social Work, Rec Therapy) through Staff Driven Competency Process
  4. Work with clinic managers and leadership to provide clinical remediation for select clinical staff
  5. Represent Clinical Staff Education on organizational committees as needed, such as Quality Committee
  6. Evaluates the staff education plan and annual goals

PHYSICAL & SENSORY REQUIREMENTS, WORK ENVIRONMENT & CONDITIONS :

  • Ability to sit and stand (one-third of the shift) and walk (two-thirds of the shift).
  • Ability to safely escort patients using stairs and elevators on a daily basis.
  • Ability to reach above, at or below waist height, kneel, bend, stoop, turn, twist, and throw.
  • Ability to see well enough to read charts, treatment plans and typewritten materials.
  • Ability to hear well enough to detect noises on the unit and have the ability to discern odors.
  • Ability to frequently lift and carry 10 lbs.; occasionally 20-50 lbs.
  • Ability to frequently push/pull wheeled carts from 100-200 lbs.
  • Ability to manipulate small and large tools (e.g. electric thermometer, telephone, wheelchair, blood pressure cuffs, walkers, paper punch, restraints, staplers, copy machine, etc.)
  • Ability to work inside and outside in varying temperatures and conditions.
  • Ability to frequently handle hazardous/infectious waste.
  • Ability to work in an environment where chemicals are frequently used for cleaning, where mechanical and electrical hazards may occasionally be present and where dust, mist and steam are frequently generated in housekeeping tasks.
  • Ability to work at a rapid pace and perform a variety of repetitive duties.
  • Ability to respond to exposure to blood and body fluids.
