Dean of Workforce Development and Continuing Education

POSITION DETAILS

Reporting to the Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs, the Dean of Workforce Development & Continuing Education is a member of the Provost???s leadership team and plans, directs, manages, and oversees a broad range of workforce development initiatives and the new development of continuing education offerings at the College. The Dean will provide overall direction and strategic leadership of Workforce Development and Continuing Education operations and finances, consistent with the mission and vision of the College. The Dean serves on the Guttman Academic Affairs Cabinet and provides management, counsel, and feedback on policy and administrative issues related to workforce development. The Dean will serve on committees and subcommittees at the College/University and represent the College in engagements with relevant external higher education organizations that improve the standing, reputation, and impact of the College.

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Leads College efforts to develop inaugural continuing education/workforce development programming in alignment with Labor Market needs, industry partnerships, and best practices in adult and continuing education in the Career Innovation Hub.
  • Oversees community engagement and an industry/employer partnership development plan to significantly increase active pool of partners in support of workforce development programs and continuing education programming.
  • Cultivates relationships with employers and community-based organizations to build pathways into non-credit programs, engaging employers, funders, industry experts, faculty, staff, unions, community and civic organizations, and others, to ensure the success of workforce initiatives in the division.
  • Supervises the Career Innovation Hub and all efforts related to student preparation for workplace and careers, including the creation of occupational training programs tied to workforce development and continuing education that prepare students for employment and career advancement and fulfill the workforce development mission of the College.
  • Pursues and implements workforce initiatives that align with industry needs, ensuring sustainability of workforce programming, including budgets.
  • Conducts analysis of workforce and continuing education needs based on information from business and industry partners (non-credit certificate programs, industry specific licensure, certifications, other credentials).
  • In collaboration with academic, enrollment, and student affairs leadership, responds to community requests and needs in developing market-driven workforce programs and provides opportunities for program modifications in response to student enrollment or success data.
  • In collaboration with college grants personnel, identifies and pursues grant opportunities that bolster experiential learning and workforce initiatives.
  • Represents the Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs at College, University, and other external programs as needed.
  • Assumes other related duties assigned by the Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs.

QUALIFICATIONS

This position is in CUNY???s Executive Compensation Plan. All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor???s degree and eight years??? related experience.

The successful candidate will possess the following knowledge, skills, abilities/competencies, and professional attributes:

  • A record of proven leadership, with a minimum of 3 years of progressive administrative experience in workforce development.
  • Strong knowledge of the New York City metropolitan statistical area and its associated workforce needs and partners and evidence of a strong commitment to the goals of urban, public higher education serving diverse populations.
  • Experience with institutional strategic planning, analysis, and fiscal management.
  • Experience supervising and managing personnel with strong interpersonal skills to communicate effectively, and the ability to work with a culturally diverse population.
  • Experience managing programmatic development and outcomes assessment in a community college or workforce agency context.
  • Knowledge of best practices in career education and alignment across credit and non-credit programming.
  • Strong technical expertise and understanding of academic technology applications for learning and advisement.
  • Strong entrepreneurial, innovative leadership, and oral and written communication skills.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

$150,000 - $155,000; Salary commensurate with education and experience.
