Diesel Mechanic

SUMMARY: Inspect and diagnose vehicles through various diagnostic testing to determine appropriate repairs

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Performs regular routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, adjusting brakes, changing tires and lubricating equipment

• Removes and replaces components such as brake systems, steering mechanisms, wheel bearings, drive train components, electrical, air conditioning, fuel, emission, hydraulics and other important parts to ensure that vehicles are in proper operating condition

• Maintains documentation of service and repair to all vehicles

• Complies with federal and state requirements by completing DOT inspections of vehicle.

• Willingness to participate in educational opportunities; reading technical and regulation publications

• Ensures the appearance of vehicles and maintenance shop

• Performs all other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Education and/or Experience • High School Diploma (or GED or High School Equivalence Certificate) post-secondary training in automotive and/or diesel engine repair. Two or more years of heavy duty class 8 diesel experience.

Language Skills -Ability to effectively present information to management. Ability to interact clearly and effectively, in both written and oral communication, with supervisor, clients, staff, vendors, etc.

Other Qualifications - Valid unrestricted driver's license - CDL class A is required; Must be able to occasionally work overtime.

COMPETENCIES:

Care and Use of Equipment - performing all maintenance and operations checks of job related equipment.

Attention to detail - managing multiple projects by determining project urgency in a practical way and creates detailed action plans.

Active Listening - Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.

Communication - the ability to inform orally and in writing, with clarity and good effect. Understands clearly and quickly when instructions or orders are received. Knows their audience and can adjust to each setting to effectively relay the message.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the individual is to remain in a stationary position for 60 percent of the time while operating the machine on the shop floor. They constantly operate motorized equipment and machines. The individual needs to occasionally move about on the shop floor to transport parts, access tools, equipment, parts, and other necessary items to complete the work order. The individual frequently positions self to operate and repair machines, including underneath and above the machine. Most of the activities involve fine and gross manipulation of items. They must be able to exchange accurate information with other individuals in the office and shop. Must be able to detect mechanical issues and part defects from short distances to determine what action needs to be taken. They must regularly p_ush, pull, and/or move up to 60 pounds. The individual must be capable of transporting different parts and tools required to do the job.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • While performing the duties of this Job, the individual is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate. The individual frequently works in a controlled climate.
  • While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • If required to wear PPE-> . Due to exposure of machinery and electrical currents, employees are required to wear personal protective equipment. During warmer months, the required personal protective equipment may cause the employee to be very warm while working. The individual will be exposed to loud machinery or equipment.
